Get this: the group I work for has been ostracized by all other Christian groups on campus. Like, eight other ministries were planning a giant campus-wide worship service, and one of the grad students who volunteers for us kept asking about helping out with the planning, and he was getting the run-around, and someone finally told him, "Look, we don't want you participating, because you guys aren't 'Biblically-based'."
In other words, because we differ on interpretation of, basically, one verse in the entire gigantic Bible (John 14:6 -- we feel quite sure that Jesus was not claiming that non-Christians will go to hell), we aren't even Christians, regardless of how important we may feel the spiritual example of Jesus is in our lives.
And on the other hand, we're in the process of trying to put together an interfaith coalition to take over the ownership of our building (which we don't have enough money to keep running on our own), and we're having these fantastic meetings with Pagans and Buddhists and Muslims and whatnot, and we're all getting along famously, and it's like, "Where's God here? Who could possible believe that the snarky exclusionary asshats are the ones who are doing God's will, rather than the peaceable folks promoting unity and understanding?" But they seem to have no problem believing that.
Um, this has little to do with your original rant. I guess I just felt like providing one in return. ;-)
