My friend Michelle from work is getting married in a few weeks. She printed off a copy of the Marriage License registration form that she'd need to bring in order to actually, legally get married.
While she's filling out this form, I'm looking at it and listening to her comments here or there about what she knows about her fiance's background and about hers and I took a piece of paper and filled out a mock copy for Trent and I. I could fill out the vast majority of the sheet, obviously all my information and almost all of his including the section of parents' full names but the only thing that really tripped me up were the parental birthplaces. I could guess his dad's but his mom's I didn't know, so I asked. He obviously wondered why in the world I'd ask such a question so I told him what I'd done and he thought it was simply a strange question to put on a License application.
I pointed out that I knew more about him than my friend did about her fiance. I received the following text message back:
"That's my girl. I must be rubbing off on you. Everything is a competition."
I was in tears I was laughing so hard. Everyone else agreed too. Michelle pointed out I might be more prepared to marry Trent than she is to marry her fiance, at least for the part that makes everything legal.
He came over later and I created a new form for him to see how he would do filling out the licence. He did surprisingly well, not knowing some things but he knew more than I thought he would. I love it.
