Wow, I can't fully convey how weird it is to be "home" after 3 months of not. I can tell that it's become more of a home, rather than the house it was when I formerly lived here: my mom is remodeling the basement so that it's no longer dark and dreary; there are a lot more pictures and framed drawings throughout; someone put up blue fishes on the bathtub walls; there is actual food in the fridge (that's quite different than the bare minimums this summer, or the abundance of white space in my fridge at school). I'm shocked that I still know exactly where we keep the dishes. I was doubly surprised when our cat came into the kitchen...I forgot that we even had one!
I hope this break is worth the hassle of getting here. First off, I got to Union at 5:00pm, right as my train started boarding. The line at the kiosk to print tickets was at least 50 people long. I had to cut in line just to get my ticket and make it in time for the last boarding call. I thought it was going to be a good ride because we were taking one of the double-decker/overnight trains, which I've never taken before. However, it turned out to be the ride from HELL. The train left at 5:20 central / 6:20 eastern time, right? At 9:30pm, the time i was scheduled to be in Holland, we hadn't even made it St. Joseph, the first stop! I guess there were some signaling problems so we were literally stopping and going, traveling at about 10 mph. Eventually things picked up, but I didn't get to Holland until 1:20am! That's a 7 hour ride, which is double what it normally takes! My dad could have driven to chicago, picked me up, and driven back in that time! The thing that made it worse was that my computer died so I couldn't watch movies, I forgot my power cord, the cabin was dimly lit, and I had a headache the entire time. When I finally got off the train, I still had a 45 minute ride to Muskegon, but that wasn't too bad. I got to check out our new car and tell my dad about school.
Hope everyone has a good break.
