arrgh, I was going to give up comics, damnit!
But now Fabian Nicieza, who all you need to know is that he writes the most charming Nightwing, Tim and Damian ever, is going to be the monthly writer for the Robin book (after Chuck Dixon was uh...mysteriously let go from DC).
*whimpers* Robin is going to be sooooo good now!
And aaaah! Finally! Jason's going to be showing up again in comics! IN THE ROBIN COMIC! aaugh! Fabian! no fair! I wanted to cut down to just three titles a month damnit!
Poster at DC boards: I know this is Tim's book, but do you have plans for Jason as well? I feel like DC brought back Jason and to be honest, they really didn't know what to do with him after that. The anti-hero Jason did not work in the '80's and it does not work now. Why bring back the character of Jason and use him the same way as before? Do you plan to resolve the multiple Robins problem that now seems to exist here?
Fabian: "If you are interested in seeing Jason, you might have to look no further than the very first part of SEARCH FOR A HERO in ROBIN #177.
I think the "multiple Robin problems" is not a problem at all, it's actually part of a larger tapestry that just needs to get stitched together a bit more tightly than it has been and I hope to do our part in the Robin series."
Aaaagh, he gets it, HE GETS IT! awesome! Only problem is,
Robin #177 is still being advertized as a Chuck Dixon story on the DC Comics website. According to the website, the SEARCH FOR A HERO storyline doesn't start till #178. DC's pretty bad sometimes with their previews, sometimes totally advertizing an issue incorrectly or out of order, and not changing the information till AFTER the issue is out. I'm guessing DC scrapped Chuck's storyline that was about Spoiler and her father the Cluemaster and are moving straight to the Search for a Hero storyline.
Not good for Spoiler fans since they'll be losing a story heavily involving the character...
But Jason, damnit! JASON! My fave Crazed up ex-dead Robin is showing up in the Robin comic! wooot! I'm dying of anticipation to see what Fabian dishes out. He's written Dick and Tim really well and in character, but more importantly, he's actually made an unlikeable character such as bratty Damian into a hillarious character. Gaah! I can't wait till august!
Poster 2: Are you just a filler for a few issues or will you be the ongoing writer?
Fabian: I'm the monthly writer, but I have also been around long enough to know that doesn't mean I can't be booted tomorrow. :-)
shyeah! like Chuck Dixon, omigod, I'm still surprised they let him go. O_o
Poster 3: I know you can't tell us the details, but are writers on the other Bat-titles privy to how RIP will end and the future of the Bat-family?
Fabian: I know the broad beats of how it will end and how it will affect all the books through almost summer of next year. I also think it's totally cool for the bat-family of titles, for the writers and for the characters -- and hopefully, I expect, for the readers as well.
Poster 2: Another interesting question: In terms of skill, how would you rate the Bat-family? I ask because you were first in years to write a competent Nightwing.
Fabian: "These are unanswerable questions, because every story dictates that you need certain things done that might make one reader get all nuts about it.
Back in the day, Batman was knocked out all the time from behind by lame henchmen. Now, he's untouchable.
I like to think all the Bat-characters are ridiculously skilled, otherwise, by all rights, they'd be six feet under by now. For the same token, you have to have creative license to tell dramatic stories, and by their inherent nature, that means your heroes have to struggle, suffer and sometimes fail before ultimately emerging triumphant.
All that being said, I wrote a competent Nightwing because I think he should be written that way, period. I grew up on him, he's my favorite character and getting a chance to write him for the first time, of course I was going to try very hard to show why I think he's the coolest."
Heh, Fabian's Nightwing was hillarious, besides skilled. Dick totally knows he's awesome and gorgeous and stopped emo-ing. Fave scene in that issue was between evil ladies and Nightwing. Nightwing asks while kicking ninjas right by evil lady: "Ladies anyway we can work together without killing anyone?" Evil lady: "My, my... can that butt look any better in those tights?" Nightwing's response: "I don't really see how, but that didn't answer my question."
Poster 3: Dan Didio said in WIZARD WORLD CHICAGO: DC NATION that there are changes in store for Robin... I'd like to know if the writer responsible for these changes Didio was refering to is you in "Robin", Grant Morrison in "Batman" or Sean McKeever in "Teen Titans". How big is your part in deciding these changes?
Fabian: It's a shared group of titles, so it's a shared load. Major decisions have been made about the end point, but individual writers have a lot of discretion on how their titles are getting to that point.
It's like a road map. We know we have to go from L.A. to Gotham. Peter Tomasi might take a southern route, I'll take a northern route, Grant Morrison will go by way of Mars. ;-)
LMAO...yes, Morrison is a bit of space cadet...
Poster 4: Will Tim's Robin's Nest be in Wayne Manor or somewhere else?
Fabian: Yes.
Poster 4: How will Tim and Stephanie's relationship evolve?
Fabian: I'm the guy who rung tragic, overwrought romance out of Justice and Firestar, Rogue and Gambit, Hawkeye and Moonstone, Cable and Deadpool, so I figure the signs are pretty clear about how they're going to evolve... it's gonna get interesting, that's for sure...
Cable and Deadpool...*snickers*
Poster 4: How will RIP affect Tim?
Fabian: To the very core of his being.
eee....scary.
But, I'll have faith in Fabian that even if Editorial Mandate is telling him to force the characters in one way, it'll at least be entertaining. Finally!
