I have been actively searching for jobs, more specifically, in the Northeast area of the U.S.
The position I am seeking (Database Administrator), has a higher market rate in that area of the country, as well as a larger demand.
Whats more, my family lives in the area, which makes is more appealing to go back "home", or at least in striking distance of them.
As of late, I have been contacted by an employer in Boston, who is offering a Jr. DBA position in the Boston area for somewhere in the neighborhood of 50k/year entry level. I have gone through loops since March to contact this person, establish communication with him as well as other staff members...SINCE MARCH!!!
It is now almost August, and I am almost at the point where a flight to Boston is in order for an on-site interview, but I have reached another block. My current manager, who is also my reference, cannot speak to the company that is seeking me, per Human Resources. And the lady that runs our HR department is out of the office, for God knows how long. It seems as though speaking to my current employer is the final straw on the proverbial camel to release the stalemate on the interview/hiring process.
Talk about being stressed out.
I have no choice but to think about it everyday, since my workload has been minimized to about 3hrs. of quality work. The remaining time is spent logging in remotely to my PC and home, and burning DVDs, and other work-prohibited activities(Espn.com, myspace, facebook, etc.). Every (other) free moment is spent checking email for a response from this company, and looking for houses in the northeast, doing cost of living analysis, blah, blah.
Mad I tell you, mad it is making me.
And my punishment, is waiting to see what the next step is (or isn't).
I'm fully prepared for the interview in Boston, but I will find refuge in the resources I have available to secure my position there.
Ugh.
