Being awake at 5am absolutely sucks. I had to say that.
Anyway, after rolling out of bed early to catch a 7am flight, I was quite tired. But, sitting next to a lesbian lady with a frullet (curly afro, and a mullet) and a barry white-esque voice and seeing the skyline of houston at 9 in the morning was totally worth it.
After making my way through the city in a yellow cab(the fare was 51$) ran by this jamaican guy who almost killed me by going the wrong way on a one way street, I made it to the office on the 9th floor, which is about 3 or 4 blocks away from where I stayed in houston a month or so ago. I met Michelle Moore, the HR assistant, who showed me around the facility, which is gorgeous. Granted, my work there would be in a cubicle, but she said everyone has cubicles. On top of that, they have a 24-hour fitness facility available to all of the employees, and tons of free snacks on tap.
After the grand tour of the place, I sat in a room, with only the benefits package folder that was given to me, and sat there...looking out of the window at the beautiful view which was downtown houston. Nice...but that got old quick.
I was interviewed by 6 people, all of them in senior positions within the company, for about 45 minutes a piece. Two of the interviews took place before lunch, where I went to this excellent vietnamese restaurant with the Senior QA Analyst, who shares the same interests as I do. When lunch finished, I had another 3.5 hours of interviews with the other 4 department heads, which burned me the fuck out. I was done with my interviews around 4 or so, and my flight leaves at 7:05, which makes for a long assed time at the airport. Upon arrival at the airport by an indian dude who gave me his concierge card, and jamming out to his xm radio, I ran by mcdonalds for 3 dollar french fries, an obvious rip-off, but i was hungry. I really felt my arteries clogging, but a small sacrifice to ease the hunger pains, right?
I thought about doing some Tom Hanks "the terminal" shit, and walk around the airport collecting baggage carts that were scattered around (and abundant) for money. I quickly bailed out of that since I was in a business suit and had shoes that were killing me. So, I sit and make calls to family, the girlfriend, and my friend todd (in houston) to let them know how the interview(s) went, and how tired I was from only getting 3 hours of sleep the night before. Post-phone call, I make random conversation with people sitting beside me, do my sudoku, watch flights come and go, and wait.
Seven rolls around and I finally get to board my flight, only to find out that the co-pilot is running late, so we have to wait another 30 minutes for his stupid ass. I'm not sure how long it took the pilot to get there because I finally lost it and fell in and out of sleep on the plane. All I could remember was this old redneck guy in front of me complaining about the flight being delayed, and later, out of nowhere, he gets up and starts marching in place, which I found profound humor in. An hour and 15 minute flight took 2.5 hours, but i'm glad i'm still alive to tell the tale. When landing, me and the lady friend went to la cocina to catch a last call on margaritas, and a bite of food, followed by (much needed) sleep.
Today will be spent on gathering some of my belongings together to move somewhere that doesn't include my apartment, and a bunch of randomness leading up to move out day, friday the 28th. Whoot.
I won't hear back from pros rm for a few days on the status of the job, but i'm hoping for some type of miracle to occur. We'll see. Maybe someone will pull some strings for me. Hopefully, I made a good impression on them.
Yep.
