You can't boycott BP stop trying

I just can’t take it anymore and I am sure this will upset some people. Everywhere I turn there are people saying they are boycotting BP. Now don’t get me wrong the spill / leak in the gulf is absolutely horrible and BP needs to clean it up and pay for damages. Now if it gives you a warm fuzzy or makes you feel hip and cool to boycott the retail BP establishment then by all means feel free to do so this is the United States and it is your right. Also please feel free to explain to me how you should go about an appropriate effective boycott, and what effect you want the boycott to have on BP
If you are boycotting to ultimately hope that BP goes bankrupt (Beyond Poor) what would that do leave all of the cleanup to the government and private or corporate donations as well as add the over 96000 BP workers to the unemployment numbers. Not to mention that boycotting the retail end of BP stations hurts the mom and pop type gas station owners and employees more than anyone else
I say that you can’t boycott BP no matter how bad you want to for a number of reasons. Lets put aside that 1 barrel of oil makes about 19 gallons of gasoline because that is what people think of when there hear anything about oil. The thing is there are thousands of products that you use everyday that contain oil. There is no way to trace down oil DNA in your cell phone via CSI the gulf of Mexico and the fact that the computer you are using to spread the word of your boycott could very well have BP oil in it. Here is a list of just a few things that contain oil.
Ammonia, Anesthetics, Antihistamines, Artificial limbs, Artificial Turf, Antiseptics, Aspirin, Auto Parts, Awnings, Balloons, Ballpoint pens, Bandages, Beach Umbrellas, Boats, Cameras, Candles, Car Battery Cases, Carpets, Caulking, Cell Phones, Combs, Cortisones, Cosmetics, Crayons, Credit Cards, Curtains, Deodorants, Detergents, Dice, Disposable Diapers, Dolls, Dyes, Eye Glasses, Electrical Wiring Insulation, Faucet Washers, Fishing Rods, Fishing Line, Fishing Lures, Food Preservatives, Food Packaging, Garden Hose, Glue, Hair Coloring, Hair Curlers, Hand Lotion, Hearing Aids, Heart Valves, Ink, Insect Repellant, Insecticides, Laptops, Linoleum, Lip Stick, Milk Jugs, Nail Polish, Oil Filters, Panty Hose, Perfume, Petroleum Jelly, Plastics, Rubber Cement, Rubbing Alcohol, Shampoo, Shaving Cream, Shoes, Toothpaste, Trash Bags, Upholstery, Vitamin Capsules, Water Pipes, Yarn
So let’s say that you can live without these products. That would be a step in the right direction. Also if you like electricity I am sorry but there is plenty of oil used in the production and distribution of it also. If you use any goods that require machinery or transport to be produced or reach there final destination once again oil. Wow it is getting harder and harder for me to see how to boycott unless I was totally off the grid, lived off the land and only had to drive to town to get basic supplies. Wait that’s right if you own a vehicle can’t drive it oil again. I guess as a taxpayer you can just walk down the street to get your supplies. I almost forgot if you pay taxes part of that money goes to build roads that are constructed of asphalt. Drat oiled again!
Hmmmmmmmm. Now what well I guess you could commit suicide and be buried where you lay so you don’t have to use the oil consuming hearse traveling down the tax payer highway to the cemetery. One more problem even with that is we are composed of organic matter and after thousands of years we too would eventually become oil in the ground for the future generations of BP to once again pump out of the ground.
