Life updates

Today I'm going to see Carrie Fisher. I might even get to MEET Carrie Fisher. One of my clients is producing her appearance at a local place, and he's letting me in. :D Have I mentioned lately how much I love my clients?

While I wait for time to tick by, I thought I'd update. Hooray!

HousesWell, the Normal house that I posted about last fell ( Read more... )

I love seeing other people look at houses - everyone has such *different* things they consider important!

Personally, the first thing I thought when the video started is "oh my god it's RIGHT on the freeway" - the highway noise wall is right there! I wouldn't even have looked at this house because there is no way I could live with that noise.

When I was looking, my non-negotiables were
1) must have upstairs bedrooms - I sleep with my windows open, and I wouldn't be comfortable doing that on the ground floor
2) must have 2 full bathrooms minimum, and 3 bedrooms - I grew up listening to my mom who had purchased multiple houses (rentals and places we lived) and she believed that 3 bedroom houses are much easier to sell, Plus, I wanted the ability to a) sleep in one room, b) have a room for my computer/office so that my computer is not in my bedroom and c) have a room I can rent out if need be. And a 3 bedroom/2bathroom is worth a lot more than a 3bedroom/1bathroom
3) must have parking for at least 2 vehicles (me, and a visitor/renter) - I spent too long fighting parking battles in previous places to live
4) must have a spot for a washer/dryer (quite a few condos in this area don't have that, and I'm not doing laundromat forever)

Above all those, is location - not near a highway or busy street. Several places that I was interested in, my realtor sent me on "homework" - go visit the neighborhood at different times of day to see how it is.

I finally found my house - and it had all my requireds, plus a bunch of other cool things that were on my nice to have list (hardwood and mexican tile floors!) and a few things I'm not thrilled about but can totally live with (main bathroom has no window, you have to walk THROUGH the laundry room to reach the downstairs half bath -weird!)

Anyway - good luck! The house looks super cute, the kitchen is nicely updated and the backyard landscaping big stuff is all in place which is nice!

(oh - and next time - hold your phone horizontally and we'll get a much wider video )

Crossing my fingers for you! I know my realtor friend has about 7 clients that are trying to buy places and keep getting into multiple bid situations and not getting a place - it's CRAZY in this area!

*wry smile* I've been looking for a year and a half. I started out with non-negotiable more like yours, but they're waaaaaay out of my price range (often by $70-$100k). Luckily, the freeway wall works great and there isn't a lot of noise, and there is a laundry room with washer/dryer. The big thing I wanted was three bedrooms and a BIG yard, and while there are only two bedrooms, I'll start working on converting the work room/garage into a third. And the great thing about this place is the community feel/dead end road. WOOT!

The other thing that's hit me over the last few months is that wherever I buy... I can always sell and re-buy. But that's MUCH easier to do if you live there already! (I'm looking at buying an hour north from me, and the commute is killing me.) In fact, the only reason I was willing to look at this two bedroom was because I figured I could sell and re-buy in a few years, but then I saw it, fell in love, and figured the work room would adapt nicely!

Over the last year and a half, I've gotten a LOT less picky. ;)

*edit: Oh, thanks for the tidbit about the phone! I know that, but these videos are primarily for me, and if I watch them on my phone again they look best upright like this. ;)

heh - I looked at *so* many houses too - it's a good thing my realtor was my friend first - and I tried hard to use open houses instead of making her show me everything I wanted to see :)

This area is ridiculous for prices - I feel your pain!

And yes - you're totally right - you can always sell. My brain insists that things like cars, houses, jobs are all PERMANENT and OH MY GOD i had better make the PERFECT decision or it will all be RUINED FOREVER. pardon my brain weasels, they get out sometimes. I am actually somewhat surprised that I was able to club them down long enough to make it through escrow :D
