So, the other day I was headed to SoCal, about to hop on a plane, and I realized I'd forgotten my book. Oh woe! So I grabbed a lesbian romance off one of Q's shelves, No Strings by Gerri Hill, and proceeded to read.

About halfway through No Strings, I saw the final Harry Potter movie. I quite liked the movie, but was a little disappointed at the ( Read more... )

My knowledge of the publishing business is essentially nil, but would you be able to leverage your standing in the genre you are already establish to have a different publisher take a risk on a outre fantasy idea?

Yes and no. The fact that I've published with small publishers gives me an advantage in finding an agent in the same genre. If I had an agent and if I'd been publishing with a big name publisher and selling, then I'd have leverage. Alas, none of those are the case. :(

My current, very faint, hope is that the fantasy industry is changing enough that by the time I get it done, someone will want it.

Considering that fantasy has made it onto HBO and has turned Peter Dinklage into a sex symbol, your turn may come sooner than you think!

*laughs* I admit, that is my one hope. With fantasy becoming popular suddenly, I might have a shot!

Drop Dead Gorgeous by Mistful, but she's been published and has taken all her fanfic down. I got it in a PDF file. ;) I think I can send it on, but let me double check!

You ever consider self-publishing? Not all your work, but just the ones that may not fit a specific genre?

I might, someday, if I get other things published and still can't get this one sold. The biggest hurdle in self-publishing is the marketing; in my opinion, the marketing is the number one reason to go with a publisher. On the other hand, if I'm huge then maybe I won't need much marketing. ;)

Hi,

Saw your post. Don't know if you know me or not but I know you from fanfic and Smolder. You might want to check out this agent if you haven't already:

http://jenniferjackson.org/

She's open to queries and seems to handle offbeat fantasy novels.

Good luck!

Lis (I'm pretty much never on LJ, but if you want to reach me I'm at: rubylis at yahoo dot com)

Hi! Thank you VERY much; I've saved this, and I'll be looking that way when I finish the fantasy novel. Thank you thank you!
