Woman whose dog bit me is avoiding me. Somehow, this is totally unsurprising to me. Her excuse as to why she can't afford the hospital bills she said she'd pay and hasn't called her insurance to see if they'll cover them? She's in love. Yeeeaaaaah. >.> Let's not talk about that.
ANYWAY! So my insurance keeps me updated on what bills there would have been (though my insurance kicks in after $4000, thank god). The current update? If I were paying these bills myself -- and keep in mind this was 3 ER visits, one office visit, and I'm still getting in bills for the other office visits and occasionally more ER stuff... The totally SO FAR is $18,640.
Let me repeat that. EIGHTEEN THOUSAND, SIX HUNDRED AND FORTY DOLLARS. Racked up in three days. I declare myself the winner of dog bites!
God, I love health insurance.
So, just to see what $18,460 will get you, have some pictures (click on them to enlarge). This is what I look like today:
I have to say, this scarring? Nowhere NEAR as bad as I expected. My knuckle isn't swollen: that's scar tissue. The nerve damage in my pinky is gone. The scar on that side of my hand is still REALLY tender, and Dr. Do said it likely would be for a YEAR. The swollen-scarred knuckle has limited tendon damage, but that's going away as I work on it and it doesn't affect me really, anyway, other than to be annoying. Not pretty, but not bad, either!
Just as a reminder, here are the gory pictures of what it looked like before!
The day after it happened, with stitches:
The day after, when they had to take the stitches out:
Five days after that (a week after the bite), after the hand surgeon had done his thing:
Two weeks after the bite:
A month after the bite:
And, just to remind you, today, almost two months after the bite!
Pretty wild, huh? Eighteen grand, man. Yeesh.
