Oh yeah, and just for you guys.
This was the story I started for Senbon Santas on the genxrai community, before I realized it just wasn't working and dropped it in favor of another idea. But you can see it, 'cause I love you like that. ;-D
Genma was vaguely aware when Raidou got up. A sudden coldness at his side, the shuffle and bump of someone getting dressed, an annoying call of, "You going to sleep all day?"
Genma buried his head under his pillow to smother the following laugh.
"Come on, lazy-bones."
Opening one eye blearily, he felt around on the nightstand until he found what he was looking for: the alarm clock. He twisted slightly, throwing while trying to move as little of his body as possible.
He missed badly, but it didn't really matter. Raidou laughed again and, his point made, Genma buried his head under the pillow once more. Raidou left. His footsteps thumped by the window a moment later as he headed out for his morning run.
Happily, Genma let himself slide back to sleep.
**
Raidou paused in the bedroom doorway, shirt sticking to his body with sweat, and considered the mound of blankets that he was pretty sure was Genma. Smiling, he ran himself through a shower and came back out again, hair still dripping down a well-muscled chest.
Genma was *still* sleeping.
Raidou eyed him. Well, maybe the man had a good idea. A morning in bed was always welcome. Grinning lecherously, Raidou crept toward the bundle of blankets. He sat on the bed carefully, watching the shape roll toward him slightly. "You under there?" he murmured.
The blankets shifted, pulling tighter around what was probably a head.
Raidou grinned, stroking a hand down Genma's back, over his rump, down the nearest leg. Then he danced fingers back up, trailing over the blankets that fell into the valley between Genma's sprawled legs.
Genma shifted. An eye peeked out from under the pillow.
Raidou smiled and leaned down, burrowing under the covers. He slid a hand into the darkness, finding skin and edging up over ribs.
Genma sighed happily and let his eyes fall closed again, lips twitching upward.
Raidou wiggled all the way under the covers, wrapping an arm around the other man and pulling him close so he could properly molest him.
Then something tapped at the window.
Cursing, Raidou yanked the covers down and sat up.
Genma whimpered.
A pigeon tapped at their window again.
"Give me ten minutes?" Raidou pleaded with it.
It tapped harder at the window.
"Five?"
It cheeped indignantly and pecked once, very hard.
Raidou sighed and dragged himself out of bed. "Fine, fine, we'll be right there," he muttered.
Genma groaned and pulled himself to the edge of the bed, flopping over it onto the floor. "I hate mornings."
**
"Okay, so you attach this here--" Genma was interrupted by the squall of his radio. He sighed and glanced down at the teenager beside him. "Hang on."
The Nara boy just shrugged and settled back, leaning on his hands.
"Yeah, Raidou?" Genma asked into the radio.
"Geeeennnnnnnmmaaaaaaa," Raidou's voice crackled. "You there?"
"I'm right here," Genma said back.
"You there? Hello? Hellohellohello?"
"I'm here!" Genma yelled into the radio.
"Can anyone hear me? Halloo? Raidou to little eagle, little eagle come in?"
Genma pinched the bridge of his nose. Not only were they supposed to check the illusion traps--one of the most boring jobs possible--but he had to teach this kid the ropes, *and* they were supposed to be testing out the newest device their engineering department had come up with--radios.
"Man, mine's broken," Raidou's voice said clearly from it.
Genma looked at the kid, who was doing his best to pretend like he wasn't thinking Raidou was the lamest excuse for a Jounin ever.
"I'll be right back," Genma said.
Shikamaru just nodded.
Genma set his radio down on the branch between them. "Let me know if this starts working, all right?"
Shikamaru sighed. "So troublesome."
"Tell me about it," Genma muttered, and took off through the forest.
A quick run brought him to Raidou, where the Jounin stood next to the illusion web, making noises into his radio.
Genma snorted, lips turning upward in a wry smile. "Hey."
Raidou jumped and whipped around. "There you are! This isn't working." He lifted the radio, waving it around.
Genma jumped down to where the other man was and took it. "Did you turn it on?"
"That only happened the once, asshole," Raidou muttered.
Genma grinned around his senbon. He flipped the radio over, eyes sweeping the case of wires and seals. Then he lifted it and pointed at one of the seals, bringing it to Raidou's attention. "This is smudged." Carefully, he scratched out the smudge and drew the seal back in. "You hear me, Shikamaru?"
"I hear you. Do you hear me, Genma-san?" Shikamaru replied, voice grainy through the radio.
Genma looked at Raidou, who was smiling sheepishly. "Loud and clear." He turned it off. "You really need to learn something about this stuff," Genma said, handing the radio back.
"I have you," Raidou pointed out with an utterly unrepentant grin.
Genma snorted. "So, why were you trying to radio me?"
"I can't get the illusion to work."
Genma sighed again and shuffled toward it. He glanced at it. "You're kidding, right?"
Raidou shook his head.
Genma eyed him, then leaned down and connected the line that made the illusion pull energy from the earth, keeping it working.
It flickered to life.
Genma looked at Raidou.
Raidou smiled and shrugged. "Should I go do the next one?"
"No," Genma muttered. "It'll take me longer if we split up." He thumbed his radio control. "Shikamaru?"
"Yes?" the boy answered.
"Think you can head south and look for the next seal?"
Shikamaru just sighed. Genma supposed that was a yes.
"I thought you said it would take longer if--"
"If you and I split up," Genma said, shooting Raidou a vaguely disgusted look. "How can you be so totally incompetent with everything?"
Raidou shrugged. He was grinning.
--that was all I had. Although I quite like it. If I find a plot for it, maybe I'll use it elsewhere. More likely, I'll forget about and it'll get lost amid the other half-written stories. There are lots.
