Jo, thank you so much for our weekly Monday Morning Warm-ups. This month has been so rewarding to me, thank you for taking the time with all of us. For my main character, Frankie, her joy is Alex. This is one of her first encounters with him when they were in high school.
Alex stopped me on my way to my English class. I had met him for the first time 2 weeks earlier. I had always noticed him, but never spoke to him. Always passing by, but no words. Today I passed him, he grabbed my wrist, “Frankie.” I looked at his green eyes.
“Frankie, are you coming tomorrow night?”
My heart was pounding. “Tomorrow night?”
“Yes, are you coming to my house with Meg?”
“Oh, I..” I stammered. What the hell was he talking about? “I don’t know. I guess, we’ll see.” I started to walk away. His grip on my wrist released and we were suddenly hand in hand. Before I could be free of his hand, he squeezed my hand, “Frankie, come with Meg. It will be fun.”
I looked back into his green eyes. Oh my gosh, it was like he was hypnotizing me. “I’ll talk to Meg.”
“Yes, it will be great. How could it not be, right?”
I laughed. And went on my way. Halfway down the corridor I turned, he was still there, staring. Until I saw Justin grabbed him and they went walking away in the opposite direction. He waved. My heart was pounding, I felt breathless. And I couldn’t help but smile.
