because some fics, I don't ever want to forget
I may as well start a rec post for all the fics I find amazing and end up having trouble finding after a year or two, when the persistent urge to read them again mercilessly strikes. This is more a personal list than anything else, but I'd be happy in case it helps anyone else discover some of these wonderful stories.
Fields in italics were supplied by me rather than from the author's notes/story tags. Also, there's no rhyme nor reason to the order in which the fics are listed right now, I'll worry about that when it gets too long.
I know most of these are Harry Potter, I'll throw in fics from other fandoms as I find them.

OP: I very rarely get emotionally-invested in characters from original fiction, but this story really made it easy. Kyle was already pushing many of my squee buttons before the fic was even halfway through, and Angelo has the potential to be his tall, dark, and cuddly savior-with-emotional-baggage. Heart-breaking end to the second part, waiting with bated breath for the third.
INK: A Fragment by trickyink
Characters/Pairing: Tom Riddle/Severus Snape, Sirius/Remus, a bit of Snape/Remus
Warnings: one-sided slash, dubious consent, canon-bending, angst, profanity, general confusion and a really whacked out Riddle

OP: A few mistakes here and there in this fic, but they struck me as the author's thoughts being too fast for her typing fingers to keep up with. I loved the style of writing and how spot-on young Riddle sounds.

OP: A timetravel fic, but one with twists and characterizations I adore. I can't accurately describe what it is exactly I love about this fic. Her Harry has all of the adaptability of the original and far more complexes that make the entire trip both dark and delicious to read through. This fic is complete, but a sequel is in the works which can be viewed at the author's page.

OP: I abhor the summary, because it doesn't even begin to describe what a roller coaster of emotions this fic takes the reader through. I fucking cried, okay. The story builds up into this heartbreaking situation and it leaves you wanting to both cry and strangle the author at the same time.

Summary: When Harry, Hermione, Ron stun Severus in the Shrieking Shack, they don't know there is a Sleeping Beauty Spell on the bed already. It interacts and Snape wakes up a woman. Remus who already is attracted to Snape finds this even more intriguing and begins to woo Snape.
OP: The fic's actually pretty dark despite the light-hearted summary. There are some elements I didn't really care for (Snape's past abuse with his mother), and a bit of melodrama here and there that threw me off a few times, but this was very delicious overall. I liked the buildup on how events gradually spiral out of control, and I found the resolution very satisfying.
Temporal Manoeuvres In the Dark by OdoGoddess

OP: A timetravel fic, but this time set during the year Snape was a headmaster. The highlight for me was the slash that developed, made bittersweet and desperate because of the rules Harry had to observe as a timetraveller.
Sexing the Pumpkin by ratherbrightred

Warnings: NC-17 (boy, is it NC-17), gender identity disorder (? I'm not really sure what the proper term is)

Summary: I've written something very….queer. Stealth!Snape* is the love child of femmenerd and myself. I really wanted Snape to get with a girl here. But he doesn't, he ends up with the next best thing, Sirius Black. I'm completely in love with this Snape and would happily write him in like a million other scenarios, but this is the one that happened. This could be considered slash, but it's not easily categorized. I would call it not-magical genderbending; I would shy away from reading this story as a representation of trans identity or as edifying in any way where such issues are concerned.
OP: I'm stumped on how to describe this fic, except that I never thought I'd find it to be this much of a good read. The author really gets into the nitty-gritty of Snape's sexuality, and how having Sirius Black in the picture is destroying all the carefully-erected safeguards and barriers he constructed around himself. It has a notable sequel called "Pumpkins are Not the Only Fruit," which I ended up liking just as much as this one.
