It has been one weird ass set of weeks.  srsly.  So, two tuesday's ago, I had to present my Cosmopolitanism in Journalism Ethics with my group.  None of my provided clips were in our group video, so it looked like I did jack shit on my end (which is so not of the good, considering our fourth person contributed zilch and didn't even bother to come ( Read more... )

Interesting question, and I must say I agree with your mom :D

I do though, have a devil's advocate question for you....(you touched on it in one sentence mentioning the "stigma" of rapist and fairness) Say Joe Shmo is accused of rape by Patty Shmatty. His life is lain open to the public, and his name is dragged through the mud. Unlike his famous counterparts, he can't afford to "reach a settlement" and he doesn't have rabid fans protecting him. So, he loses his job, his friends, his reputation and however long of his life he spends in jail and/or at trial. Turns out, Patty is lying. So, he gets a "sorry to bother you, not guilty"? and she goes back to her quiet little life. Even if she is charged with purgery for lying under oath, it seems to pale in comparison.

Yes, this is rare or extreme, but again, I'm just playing D's advo. and wondering.....

I don't think there is a good answer to this. Any case involving a celebrity is going to be "sensationalized" by the media. Most cases don't have outsiders involved trying to sway public opinion, only needing to convince a jury of 12.

Realgood question though, I look forward to reading other comments.
