My sister is working on her masters. While she does work (part time) she's never stopped taking money from my father, and has never fully supported herself. She's very smart, and fairly well educated, but has no experience with the world of actual consequences ( Read more... )

I think you may have an advantage over the students and the teachers, having a bit of experience thinking and living on your own. I think one can possibly acquire a conservative education through the school system if one allows oneself time to internalize and contemplate what one is being fed. This may mean going a little more slowly than one wants to. But I think it is worth the wait.
How old are you?

I'm not even 30 yet, but I've tried to have a bit of fun. I'm about to start my third company. So far my best was 3 years before I gave up and went back to a day job. I've done some low budget traveling, if only to Mexico for any length of time. I tried the Army Infantry thing, which was short lived due to some medical problems, but interesting none the less, so I've got a bit of that type of "experience" for my age. On the flip side, my room mate has his BS in philosophy and half the time when I make some discovery which blows my mind, his reply is "oh, yeah, read person X for more on that" and then he turns around and goes back to his World of Warcraft game. There's only so far you can go inventing the wheel as you roll. I'm trying now to read up on some of the classics and start to learn things other people have already discovered so that I can stand on the shoulders of giants, as they say, and make some forward progress from there ( ... )
