So, while I am disgusted with both the candidates, I thought I might as well toss out what my vote will be on the bills in the upcoming election. Fire at will.
1A.) No.
The State of California can not balance it's books. An additional train is not necessary, it will cost 20 Billion, and it will not deal with commuters at all (people don't commute 200+ miles through the central valley) which to my mind makes a high speed electro-train a luxury (if there was any doubt) While I think it would be a great idea, we can't do it when we're so backed up. There are other priorities for 19.4 Billion Dollars in the California Budget.
2.) Yes.
yes, animals will suffer in farms. No, I don't think that voting yes to give them standing room will fix much. Does voting yes on this peg me as a bleeding heart liberal? oh well.
3.) Yes.
2 billion spent on hospitals. 10 of these could be passed with the money spent on prop 1. It's an infrastructure need at this point.
4.) No.
I don't think parental notification at this point would help anything. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this, as I'm still unsure, but at present, my vote is no.
5.)Yes.
Non violent drug offenses shouldn't even be against the law. If we can stop innocent druggies from doing time and clear out our prisons at the same time, with negligible overall financial impact (save 2.5B on prisons, spend 1.?B on treatment) I'm for it.
6.) No.
I have never found the police to be useful, and I think spending more money on them, while creating multiple new crimes while we're still failing to enforce the laws on the books is stupid.
7.) Yes
I think this is important, but I'm not 100% sure that yes is the right vote. On the one hand, moving to renewable resources is key. On the other, any additional burden on our state budget right now is suicide. That being said, 3.4M a year is nothing.
8.) No.
Separate but equal failed last time. Domestic Partnerships are NOT the same as marriage. You don't have the same rights, they're not recognized in other states (ask me to tell you a story about a friends skiing accident) and even if they were, we still can not have a government which claims to be egalitarian in nature but supports prejudice laws.
I told my mother that if she or someone her age supports 8, please have them look at the court case Love vs Virginia, and see if any of that seems important to them. You can find information on that case here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loving_v._Virginia Yes, same sex marriage in California was the result of judicial activisim, so has every major social reform of the century.
9.) Yes
Victims should be notified when a convicted offender is going to get out.
10.) No.
While I think 7 is a good idea at 3.4M/yr, Our state can't handle $5b right now. If you want to encourage alternative vehicles, bring back the carpool passes.
11.) unsure.
On the face it sounds good. On the other hand, more bureaucracy and red tape from a group which will probably be easier to coerce and control than the existing laws allow for is somewhat scary. I'll probably vote no.
12.) No.
Voting against a veterans bond. ouch, but the state just can't afford anything right now. Even "just" 1.8b is too much :(
So, those are my thoughts. If you want to convince me otherwise, feel free to take a stab at it.
