2005 in review

1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?. Stayed at the same university for consecutive semesters...made the dean's list...asserted myself...got drunk...got stripped of my driver's liscence...was a groomsman in a wedding...got my pubes

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? don't really make 'em. If I did, I don't remember what it was.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? yes - I got placenta all over me. it was disgusting

(get it?)

4. Did anyone close to you die? thankfully no.

5. What countries did you visit? just stayed here. woo hoo!.

6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005? a working brain...a working car As explained here

7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? April 8 - I turned 21 three days earlier. This is when I experienced the joys of it.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? taking everyone's advice and getting back into theatre studies, even though I can't be in any productions.

9. What was your biggest failure? Not stopping that asshole who was hitting his girlfriend in the WSU parking lot. I should have called the cops first, then the asshole wouldn’t have gotten away. NOTHING pisses me off more than abuse of the defenseless.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? these "seizure" things need to stop.

11. What was the best thing you bought? The transfer fee for switching to my current apartment from the one I was assigned to. Conversation, humor, and a clean bathroom go a looooong way when you’re trying to live comfortably.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? My professors and bosses for understanding and giving me the leeway to get through this brain crap... the WSU athletic director for calling me and thanking me for my article... the third floor girls of 2170 for being my sweeties even though I'm just a poor, scrawny white boy... Arby's for creating the Reece's milkshake, even though they lasted just a few short months.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and/or depressed? For taking 2-minute showers every third day despite being on the club baseball team, for turning my old apartment into a biohazard by (among MANY other things) leaving a pair of bloody boxer shorts in the washing machine for me to find, and - of course - for getting out of his car, walking around to the passenger side, opening the door and then “accidentally” kicking his girlfriend in the face, this prize goes to the ex-roommate we affectionately called “Radio”

14. Where did most of your money go? the essentials: food, toiletries, gas, meds, etc.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Getting back into theatre

16. What song will always remind you of 2005? “Lullaby,” my favorite Ben Folds song. Angie made a SPECTACULAR birthday present for me with it.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you: happier or sadder? MUCH happier. I've got a lot of options and a great deal of confidence. Things are looking up.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of? Heroine... crack... jogging... basketball

19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Sleep... hanging around my apartment(s)... having somebody glue a bunch of wires to my head... changing jobs

20. How will you be spending Christmas? 2005 or 2006? Hanging out with my long lost brother, Deyson!

22. Did you fall in love in 2005? nope. It's not that I'm shunning relationships or anything, I'm just not looking. If something shows up, we'll see what happens.

24. What was your favorite TV program? Daily Show, Colbert Report, Drawn Together, Family Guy

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? nope

26. What was the best book you read? Haven't had a lot of casual reading time, but the study on prostitutes at the turn of the century for my American History class was very intruiging. Others I finally got around to: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Of Mice and Men, Primary Colors

27. What was your greatest musical discovery? Sufjan Stevens, Mates of State, Eels, Decemberists

28. What did you want and got? a decent living arrangement... this

29. What did you want and not get? rippling muscular physique... a pony

30. What were the best movies you saw for the first time this year? Sin City, the 40 Year Old Virgin, The Aristocrats, The Butterfly Effect (and it pisses me off)

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were ya? I turned 21, and I got plastered. My friends, brother, and cousins came from everywhere and watched me stumble around for a few hours. It was great.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? An overthrow of the Bush administration, world peace (wait. Those two are sort of connected, aren't they?)

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005? Lots of outlet malls and thrift store shopping. I'm a bit underfinanced right now.

34. What kept you sane? Being around people my own age after two years of de facto isolation.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Joe Biden, Barrak Obama, and John McCain -voting by what they think is right and not just by party lines…what a concept!

36. What political issue stirred you the most? Well, Bush is still in office. That's sort of an endless array of horrible shit.

37. Who did you miss? Deyson, Angie, my ability to drive,

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005: When you're 20-21 years old, GO TO COLLEGE! Being around people your own age is a LOT better than being around politicians and businessmen three times your age all the time.
