Unrequited: A FicMix

Jul 09, 2010 01:21

FicMixes are popular in fandom and, apparently, this is the only way I feel like expressing my vague sense of melancholy, right now.

Unrequited (Or: Catharsis)

In the beginning…

At the start they share a friend. Introductions are made in a pub and, despite the noise and the fug of alcohol, she knows. She’s lost the moment he opens his mouth. She knows almost nothing about him, nothing but the hazel of his eyes and the sly, twitching curve of his mouth - but that’s enough.

She wants to know everything. (But doesn’t think she’ll see him again.)

I Don’t Know, Lisa Hannigan

Falling…

It all comes back, the very second time she sees him, so many months later. Only now there’s the reality of him to learn, the presence, the scent of him in the air - and suddenly it’s almost more than she can bear. It’s not supposed to be like this - so much, so soon - she’s supposed to know better.

He destroys her barriers with too much ease. (But he doesn’t see it.)

Something’s Gotten Hold of My Heart, Gene Pitney & Marc Almond

Poetical Dichotomy…

Every moment she spends with him is a joy. His flaws make him human and it’s the reality of him that she loves, the warmth and beating heart of him. If she tries she can match her steps to the beat of his heart; to the ticking, whirring of his mind. She breathes him in and feels it change her, feels herself grow in his company. It’s too easy.

It’s exultant and raises her spirits like nothing else.

Every moment she spends with him is a small torment. His flaws make him human and that’s what makes her loathe him. When she’s with him up becomes down and love becomes hate. He breaks her heart in small, unthinking ways, and if she didn’t know his heart better than that she’d say it was deliberate. It would be so much easier if it was deliberate.

It’s horrible and lowers her spirits like nothing else.

It is her dichotomy.

An apology…

In the end it’s really no-one’s fault. There is too much miscommunication, no ability to understand the other, crossed wires and half-measures and mixed signals. Maybe they know too much about each other - maybe she moves too fast and he moves to slow - maybe his heart is not ready, and hers is too ready. Maybe a lot of things, in the end.

Words are said and foundations are rocked and in the end there’s friendship, at least.

…and maybe A Hope.

Life Less Ordinary, Carbon Leaf

Each song is a Youtubes link - to official videos where possible - because, y'know, I don't want to encourage piracy. If you like any of the songs/artists please get to your nearest online/music store and pick up their albums.
