Weekend after next I'll be moving again, after a year in this apartment. While I told myself it would be the last apartment I get here, that was before we needed more space. Our new place is going to be great, no one above us, no one below us, our own garage, and an affordable pet deposit.
Things I'm not going to miss at all from the current apartment:
- Shared parking garage. Trying to squeeze into a convenient parking space next to the monstrous Ford truck that is overhanging both lines of the "compact car only" space is not fun. Plus it's open to the elements, so even though you're mostly protected there is still a nice sheen of dust and crap on there every morning.
- The fourth floor. It's pretty warm up here.
- Broken garage gate. I've never lived in a gated place before, so it's not a big deal to me if it's stuck open (which it was for three months or so). Gates that don't open in the morning when you're trying to go to work suck, though.
- Useless apartment office. They don't accept packages if they have to sign. Which is pretty much meaning they don't accept packages. Good luck being home at 11am when UPS shows up, and I hope you like driving to Mesquite.
But there are things to miss, too.
- Getting the mail any time. Just go downstairs, even if it's raining, not a pain and don't have to drive.
- The fourth floor. It's kind of neat to be able to look out the window and see stuff from this height.
- East-facing apartment. After my last place I'm wary of the new one being west facing. It should be better than a lot of the unshade south facing apartments though, there are some trees at least.
- Restaurants. Walking somewhere for lunch or dinner is not to be underestimated; Kelly's, Jorg's, Dish, La Paloma, Dickey's, etc.
- DART Rail. Sure, I didn't take it much, but it was within walking distance and a great option.
