Once again, long time no update... blah blah blah.
So we've been going through a lot of stuff with my mom for well over a month. First she had an ear infection which apparently affected her equilibrium. This led to severe anxiety attacks which were managed with Valium. The Valium seemed to depress her, so the doc weaned her from that.
In the midst of all of this, Mom is finally dealing with her anger at having an ileostomy (the result of Crohn's disease). She has been repressing this for nine years, and I guess once her "guard" was down, it came out. She informed my dad that she hoped her surgeon was happy. Dad's response was "Would you rather have died?" and she said yes. 8(
Fast forward to today. She had an appointment with an ENT doc. Her equilibrium is still off, but her infection is cleared up. The doc thinks she may have had a mini stroke, and if this is the case, her balance may never improve. She may have to use a cane or a walker. My mom's response to this suggestion was, shall we say, less than favorable. Anyway... she is scheduled for an MRI at 2pm on Monday, the 18th. We are hopeful this procedure will yield more information.
I am stunned by this development. Her regular doc thought the ear infection might have caused scarring which could affect her balance. No way did we expect a possible stroke. If it is a stroke, will she be prone to more occurances?
Time to google stroke information....
