Windows in the City

I'll be downtown reading at a cafe
sitting alone at a table for two,
and as I move to put my feet up,
I'll look up and I'll glance at what's outside.

I'll see you walking past the window
close to the glass to keep the rain off you.
And if you'd turn you'd see me watching.
I never should have taken my eyes off the page.

Windows in the city don't open--
All they've got's revolving doors.
