On Death

My coworker/acquaintance/friend Tim McGuiness died this morning. He was 35 or so.

The last thing he said to me was complimenting me on how I got some colour while I was away and that I looked pretty that day. He was off-kilter, had a very dry and wacky sense of humour, was a fantastic guitar player and a good heart.

The thing that gets me the most is that his sudden absence won't go away. He's missing from Fortes and his life forever now. He was hired about 6 months before me and I've never gone longer than a month without seeing him. He used to jokingly ask if everyone was OK when it wasn't busy (we often ask if we can help when it's really busy). He used to say "Erin, I love you so much it's hurting us both"..then make his eyes really wide like he was a little crazy.

He was a crooner, he took half a dozen lessons from me. He walked around the seawall every day. He was in a hardcore band and then looked like a waiter out of the '40's when he came to work. He had great hair, he was kind hearted, he liked to drink, and made a great leprechaun impersonation.

It is a melancholy day.
