Notes: I wrote this at work today on a break and with emergence of all the squeeworthy pics of Jim decided to post it. Un-betad so all mistakes are mine.
Penny is this really necessary ?”
“ Yes, Sheldon it is! Dr Gablehouser is giving this dinner in your honour for all the mono-whatever stuff you guys discovered when you were in the North pole. However much you whine I am not going to let you go to this dinner in that gross tweed thing of yours.”
“Penny my Mother brought me that suit!”
“Sheldon you know I like your Mom but you are not wearing it, now get changed!”
Sheldon did not return a retort at Penny’s statement, instead she hear him shuffling about behind the curtain and muttering about demeaning himself.
Penny smiled and leaned against a nearby wall.
It had taken a lot of persuading to get him this far but she knew it would be worth it.
It had been in her mind since he had come home last week and announced that they were being recognised for the work they had done in the Arctic.
Even though they had been back for three weeks, he was still wearing his hair longer as his regular hairdresser was visiting family and would not returning to work until next week.
When Penny had seem him at the airport, well….
She struggled to see them over the crowds of people, despite standing on her toes. Checking her cell she couldn’t see any messages saying they were running late.
Surely she should be able to at least see Sheldon!
A tall figure caught the corner of her vision and she started waving her sign and shouting.
Then a light tap on her shoulder caused Penny to nearly jump out of her skin.
“Penny , there is no need to shout we were quite able to find you thanks to the loud and garish design you have chosen for you sign.”
She had swivelled round and come face to face with a slightly dishevelled and travel weary Leonard, Howard and Raj, all sporting an impressive array of facial hair.
Squeaking, she jumped forward and attempted a sort of group hug.
This was quickly halted as she felt Howard’s hand creeping down to her butt.
Penny had moved back and shoved him hard.
“What ?You can’t blame me for trying, I’ve spent the last four months shut up with these guys !”
Glaring, she turned to Sheldon who was standing slightly back from the others.
“Hey…”
Before the rest of the words left her mouth she took in the longer, slightly messy hair and smattering of stubble on his face.
He looked so different. She had never seen him so untidy and unbuttoned. It suited him.
She had stood for nearly five minutes just staring, unable to speak.
Since that day Penny had been fighting the urge to run her hands through the strands of his longer hair. All the feelings that she had worked so hard to keep buried were now very much present.
Sheldon broke her revere, his voice floating from behind the curtain.
“Penny I am now changed. If I show you the results of your silly endeavour will you let us leave go to the comic book store as you promised.”
“Yes Sheldon, now show me.”
He stepped carefully from behind the curtain and stood straight a short distance in front of her.
At that moment Penny half expected to hear the sound of her jaw hitting the floor.
He looked… Gorgeous.
The pants showed off the long line of his legs and they seemed to fit just right around his hips.
The cut of the jacket showed that he had surprisingly broad shoulders and long lean arms.
This paired with the longer hair he was sporting….Well.
Penny took a breath, then let out a giggle as she noticed he had fastened the top button on the shirt.
Only Sheldon.
Smiling, she took a step forward.
“It looks great, but sweetie your meant to leave the top button open.”
“But Penny, the shirt has buttons that fasten to the collar therefore that is how I have done it.”
“But it’s meant to be open, you know that’s the look. Stay still.”
Penny moved closer.
Her hands ghosted up the long line of his arms and came to rest on the collar of the shirt.
She gently pushed the button back though the whole and parted the collar. Her fingers brushed the skin of his neck causing Penny to shiver.
The parted collar exposed the elegant line of his neck. Penny found herself wondering what would happen if she leaned forward and brushed a kiss just under his ear.
They were very close now, bodies almost touching and Sheldon had made no move to bring any distance between them .
Penny could feel his warm breath on her face.
Her whole body jolted as his long fingers brushed her cheek and tucked a stray hair behind her ear.
Looking up at his face Penny saw Sheldon’s eyes sparkling and one side of his mouth curled up into a smile.
Penny moved closer so that they’re lips were almost brushing. Sheldon lowered his head and...
A shout came from outside the fitting room door.
“Hey guys, you ready to go ? Howard wants to get to the comic book store before that new assistant get’s off her shift.”
Penny jumped back from Sheldon and he turned moved back behind the curtain before she had a chance to speak.
Leonard appeared in the doorway frowning.
“Penny are you okay ? You look kind of flustered.”
“Yeah, I’m fine just..”
“He’s not been giving you a hard time has he ? I told it was a crazy idea in the first place!”
“No, it’s just kind of hot in here. Why don’t you wait outside and we’ll come find you once he’s finished .”
“Okay, but don’t be too long.”
Leonard gave Penny a sweet smile, and she felt her heart sink.
Watching his departing figure she knew that they were going to have to talk real soon.
“Penny, I am ready to leave.”
Penny turned to Sheldon.
He was standing with the suit folding neatly over his arm and a look of distant stoicism on his face.
Damn Leonard!
They had been so close to … well something.
Before her better judgement took over she grabbed the front of his Superman shirt and pulled his face down towards hers.
“Not quite.” she whispered and brought her lips up to meet his.
The kiss was hot and hard and sent waves of pleasure all though her body.
Before it could go any further, Penny reluctantly pulled back and smoothed the front of Sheldon’s shirt.
His eyes were wide and his face held a slightly shell-shocked expression.
Spinning quickly on her heal and grinning Penny made her way towards the fitting room exit.
She called over her shoulder.
“Now your ready to leave, better hurry if you want to make it comic book store.”
