So today fullmetalpussy (a.k.a. Large Marge), Marzipain and went down to lend support to the counter-protest against "Pastor" Fred Phelps and his mongers of hate (see previous entry). Large Marge lent me a set of outdoor wheels, so I also got to skate outside for the first time -- this was challenging, and even a bit frightening, but kinda cool, ( Read more... )

You live in Hampden! You don't see hate and violent things yelled at you based on nothing?

One of the last protesty things I did (besides the pro choice march in DC a couple of years ago, not really a protest) was to mock some Pro-Life protesters who'd camped out in front of our local PP for weeks.

We were the More Life Coalition. We had signs of extreme made up Pro-Life slogans. The Pro-lifers didn't get that we were mocking them (they thought voting rights for fetuses was a great idea).

Oh, of course I do. But they're not protected by the police, and operating under the guise of doing God's bidding. Hampden hate isn't God's hate. It's drug hate, drink hate, family hate, gentrification hate, what have you. And, ironically, all of these sources strike me as a more valid source (if there can be such a thing) for hate than a Christian notion of "God."

Haha! That is awesome. So sad that irony is lost on so many people.

Jazz, remind me some day to tell you about doing clinic defense in Minnesota during the height of the Lambs of God heydey. We're talking physical attacks, the whole works. People are fuckin' insane when they get righteous.
