There have been certain truths that all Americans lived by the last 50 or so years. The U.S. is the world super power. The U.S. is awful at soccer. The U.S. hates Fidel Castro for whatever reason.
Now the U.S. won't have to deal with him. Castro announced his resignation..err...
retirement early today. The so-called evil dictator had ruled for almost half a century
And even with his retirement, the U.S. still
won't lift its embargo on the tiny island. Let's hope the U.S. does finally lift its sanctions though. The Cold War has been long over. Cuba is not a threat to the U.S. And really, this is all the U.S.'s fault for not annexing Cuba when it wanted to in the 1800s.
So we've had three days of world changing events. Three days ago Kosovo was still a state in Serbia. Musharraf's party was still in power in Pakistan. And Castro was still the man in Cuba.
It's been a crazy three days on the stage of world politics.
