This has been one of the better trips to Santa Cruz that I've had in a while. The main reason? I've been here for a week and a half and I don't feel like I need to be leaving tomorrow. In many of my visits, I hit my limit of living in my parents' house between a week and a half and two weeks, but not this time.
Of course, I've been so busy that I've barely had time to notice I'm here.
The first Sunday I was here was the giant friends and family Shakespeare Santa Cruz outing.
Then, I spent all of last week at Voice Camp, herding cats in the form of 5-to-15-year-olds, teaching recorder and Orff, trying to get kids to learn the music for "Harry Potter and the Circle of Fifths" (which was AMAZING, by the way), and generally running around like a chicken with its head cut off. The whole thing was exhausting and crazed, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I can't wait for copies of the DVD of the show to appear.
To top off the week, I got to go up to blues in San Francisco, and despite the exhaustion, was able to enjoy the night.
Saturday was my cousin's wedding in San Jose, which was beautiful and personal and lovely. While there, I met some "new" cousins, three girls who were adopted by a distant aunt about three years ago. They're all Colombian orphans, and very sweet. Two of them spent the night at our house, and the rest of the bunch...
...met up with us the next day for brunch and the Boardwalk. Good times were had by all, if not a lot of sleep.
The past few days since then have been spent catching up with old friends, and trying to get some sleep. Two highly recommended movies in my opinion are "(500) Days of Summer" and "Humpday".
See you back in Seattle tomorrow evening.
