Hi everyone,
Thought I'd pop in with a quick update. Two major news items, one good, one not so good.
Jeff got a job!
He now works for Citi Financial supporting their Q&A department. The people seem nice, it seems to be low-stress, and it's an easy commute. He's about to begin his fourth week. Obviously we're both delighted!
Max is now a "triPAWd"
Our sweet, wonderful doggie has not had a good 3+ months, medically speaking. Around the beginning of November, he suddenly went blind. He was diagnosed with Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration (SARD), for which there is no cure. He adapted to his blindness pretty well. Within a couple weeks he had mapped the house and the yard in his mind really well, so he was bonking his head only occasionally rather than regularly.
Then when we had him in for a check-up, his vet discovered a lump on his left hind knee that turned out to be cancerous. After weighing (heavily) all the options, we decided the removing the leg was the best thing to do. Everything we heard from others indicated that dogs adapt to having three legs pretty well, and they are able to continue on with an almost-normal life.
That surgery took place last Monday. Tuesday, when we brought him home, was probably one of the worst days of my life. Each day has been a little bit better, he is recovering on schedule, and we're all adapting, but I'm still filled with sadness and remorse. Intellectually, we know we made the best choice we could under the circumstances, but it's still gut-wrenching to watch him struggle and suffer.
Otherwise, I'm doing well. Band is great, although not without its drama. Work is okay, and I'm really feeling the need to find an internal transfer. But I'm thankful to have the job. And of course, I am delighted that we are not buried under two feet of snow. 60 degrees, partly cloudy with a little occasional rain is fine with me!
