Greetings from Santa Clara

Tonight I am in a Hilton Hotel in Santa Clara, CA. Tomorrow is the day my department head makes our presentation for the Intel Quality Award to a committee of our CEO and several senior VPs. The IQA is the top award an organization can get. I think we have a good shot at it. I am on the team that is there to provide answers to questions that might come up, plus I will be running one of the two slide shows.

The six of us who traveled here today ate dinner at the Fish Market, and now I’m in my room at the Hilton. The only issue occurred when I opened up my suitcase. Some liquid spilled and left wet spots on my brand new shirt and pants (that I bought yesterday, especially for this occasion) and one of my shoes. I determined that it was probably the multi-purpose solution for my contacts (even though I packed it in a ziplock bag), and I dried them off with the hotel-provided hair dryer and the stains are 99% invisible.

It occurred to me at one point during dinner that I am now in a place where my marriage is legally recognized!

The fish market was okay, but way overpriced. Jeff does a better job with salmon than they do, and I do a better job with Long Island Iced Teas. It seems to me that when you eat out at an expensive restaurant, you should be able to get food that is better than what you can make at home.

The Hilton is sufficiently nice, but boring. It is your standard generic business traveler hotel.
