-Chavez calls Bush an "asshole"
-I have finally seen the Jesus movie. Technically it was good. It's gore was stylized much like QT did in Kill Bill.
Let me jump into my problems with this film.
This movie screams for the need of separation between church and state. Religion should not be associated with goverment at all. The soonest a candidate or politician mentions religion he should be out of there automatically. Zealot politicos have an agenda. You hear Bush talking God all the time. After 9/11 he invoked the name of God often. This should have been kept as secular as possible. Him starting that made this into a holy war. It is like the new Crusades. He feels like God led him into this war with Iraq I read somewhere. Maybe you misinterpeted it or you maybe you just had some good tex mex.
Which brings me to my next point. This movie made me even more against the death penalty. It reminded me how barbaric the capital punishment is. No man should decide when another man should die even if he had taken a life. That is what prisons are for.
The Jewish thing. It did make them a little blood thirsty. Letting Christians comment on what is anti-semitic is like letting the Klan define what racism is. The Jewish people is this film reminds me of modern day republicans. Pilot reminded me of a progressive politition. Fuckit, I will use the word- liberal. He knew it was wrong. I am against the death penalty. I have decided on something. That as long as the death penalty stands they should get rid of all the other forms off capital punishment instead of crucifixion. No chair. No leath injection. No gas chamber. Only crucifixion. I am sure crucifixion would lower crime blah blah blah. Oh, don't give me the cruel and unusual thing. Death is death. Death = death. The result is the same. Maybe if Judges or Juries knew they were sending someone to the cross I think there would be a lot less people sent to deaths. You know occasionally you will have an innocent person crucified. But you know that is ok, he might be a messiah to some group.
Where are all the black people? I have come to a conclusion that white people's bibles must not have the lines about Jesus' hair being like wool and his skin being a bronze color. Most white people can't find it or must just ignore it. Argue if you want but I am sure that Jesus didn't look like Jim Morrison.
It reminded me how much a messianic space western star wars is.
There was a really good article in the Austin Chronicle about this film. It brings up how the movie is different the movie is from the original text. The Pope said it is as it was. Has he read the book? It is amazing to me how little most christian people know about the bible and how it came together.
One last thing. The ending left the movie wide open for a sequal.
-I scratch. I found this a Different Kitchen but they found it from somewhere else.
-Went digging with Mel yesterday. I hadn't been digging with another person since eh-D left town. I take that back, I have gone digging with Dennis but he is a record collecter and not a DJ. I came across some good stuff. Teena Marie's Lover Girl and MJ's Wanna be Starting Something. Both of these had instrumentals. I know there is a blend in there somewhere. Mel hipped me to Dennis Edwards - Don't Look any Further. I found it a little ironic what the title is and it was the first record Mel picked up. We did look further though. I knew I had heard that track before but I never knew who it was.
-I went out to Tambaleo to see Dave and Mel spin. Inspiration hit me. The waitress hooked me up with a pen. It even eventually started to leak. Ideas and concepts started pouring last night. I hated to leave early but had to catch the moment. One idea turned into another idea and morphed into another. I had no idea where this was coming from. I am going to try and have a couple of these ideas complete today and throw them out to an audience a couple of times before the Austin Internation Poetry Festival in April.
-I stumbled across this on the Okayplayer.com website. It is streaming video of the entire last episode of the last Chappelle Show. The musical performance of Common and Kanye West has every head I know talking. It finally hit me Kanye's flow reminds me of a suburban Jay-Z.
