Two Epsiodes Down And Still So Behind...

Nov 22, 2007 17:45

I've been very fangirl-y recently. First the Firefly/BDM/R. Tam Sessions thing, and now a really long post for Supernatural...

** This post includes episode-review-type-stuff, general thoughts on characters, thoughts on fans’ thoughts on characters, ranting about stupid people (not necessarily related to the other stuff), and [crap] screencaps of pretty people. :D **

So I am finally catching up on Supernatural. I have just watched 3.04 “Sin City” and 3.05 “Bedtime Stories”.

Yes I am/was that behind in viewing the episodes.

What can I say? I have a Mechanisms of Disease lab on Thursday from 6 to 9pm.
My dad teaches it, and always remarks/complains to those of us that stay most of the time about the kids that rush through looking at and drawing the slides. Personally, I don’t want to rush through them either, regardless if I am expected not to because my dad is the professor. Many of those who rush complain of bad grades and ask how I get good-ish grades and how I study. I try to be helpful and polite, but the truth is if you would just put the effort in the first time around maybe you and your crap/wrong drawings wouldn’t suck so much. *shrugs* Then you would be looking the right things in your sketchbook when you study (if you really study) and you would do better on the practicals/exams.

Anyways since I am in the group that stays later (would it really kill them to stay the extra 45 minutes- 1 hour and leave at 8:20 at least), leaving at 8:45-50, I am often exhausted when I get home. I just want to eat dinner and crash. And my sister won’t let me record the episodes on the only working VCR in the house in her room, so poo-poo!
....So here are my thoughts on 3.04 and 3.05 before I move one to the other two that I have missed. I am not going to do full-on, full-length reviews, but I will write a few words for each. Well, those ‘a few words for each’ got long, fast. :P

I have included some of my very own [crappy] screencaps for fun. So maybe not the most dial-up friendly?

::3.04 “Sin City”::

This was not my favorite episode so far, but I did enjoy it. I’ve now gone back and read some episode discussions and reviews, etc., and I noticed a few things. Some people really don’t like/don’t believe the whole “Sam is Evil” and/or “Sam is the AntiChrist/DemonGeneral/WhatHaveYou”. Personally, I do kind of really like it. I also can’t understand why Sam couldn’t be good and be the DemonGeneral at the same time. I am not exactly sure how it would work, but give me some time, I’ll figure something out.

Also noticed that at this point a lot of people don’t like Ruby. They say she can’t act, that Sam should have shot her when he had the chance, that helping Sam was bad enough and helping Booby with the Colt is even worse, and that they prefer Bela. Umm, don’t shoot me, but I disagree with all of those. I think that Katie Cassidy is doing OK with Ruby; her semi-evil-perkiness is kind of infectious. I like her when I thought I would hate her. Which is the opposite of Bela. Bela I knew I may not love, but I definitely thought I would like her a helluva lot more that Ruby. Boy was I wrong. I mean, by no means is Ruby perfect, but I like her anyways.

Bobby was Made Of Win, as usual. Putting up with the boys at the beginning of the ep, fixing the Colt (what exactly was wrong with it? Just the no more bullets thing, or something else?), shooting (but not killing) Ruby, obviously letting her helping him, and saving Sam. However, he loses just a few Awesome Points for being Not Convincing At All when reassuring Dean that Sam was alright. Dean is a tiny tap away from being completely shattered and broken. And, no it is not fair, but dammit! Bobby, you have to be strong for Dean and keep him from that.

Dean and CaseyDemon being stuck in the basement was my favorite part of the episode. I loved their conversation(s). Actually there was a lot of talking/conversations/exposition in this episode. I think that why it felt significantly different, the action was missing. Not that it’s a bad thing, we learned a lot. CaseyDemon was gorgeous. But this whole ‘Dean hitting on every woman he sees’-thing is getting a smidge old. Anyways, I’ll forgive because CaseyDemon was great.

I really appreciated that as they spent more time together, Dean was feeling more humane and compassionate towards CaseyDemon. Also liked that CaseyDemon was nice-ish to Dean. She felt bad for him? She had compassion, too (yes, maybe that is better wording).

She was also chalk full of fun information. Yellow Eyes’ name being Azazel, all the Lucifer stuff, Azazel plan vs. the current chaos. I find it fascinating that no one has seen Lucifer. Show could go some really cool places with that. Also I like that CaseyDemon was up for following Sam. It was is nice to hear a contrast to Pride in 3.01 “Magnificent Seven”, who seemed to imply (to me) that even before he first saw/confronted/beat-up Sam, he could believe that Azazel expected him to follow Sam’s into battle.

Dean conversing with CaseyDemon was also something to behold. He was so cute when he could remember the Latin exorcism and when he asked if everyone ‘knew’ that Sam was the brains in their little duo. His faith that Sam would come for him and save him warmed my heart. And once he ‘got-over’ the fact that CaseyDemon, was in fact a demon and started to actually talk with her it was great. He asked questions and seemed to accept her answers as honest even with his “Dee-mons Lie Creed”. It near broke my heart when he wasn’t afraid of dying/going to Hell, expect for the fact that he so obviously is.

I hated that the priest was possessed by a demon, even though it was most obvious. I hated that Sam got stuck with him and had to see that. Sam saw that God doesn’t even protect his supposedly most devout followers. And the last thing we need is for Sam to lose his faith. HOWEVER, if over the course of Sam losing his faith in God, Dean somehow finds the faith he admittedly wants to have, that would be acceptable. :) Anyways, I really liked that CaseyDemon spoke for Dean and wanted to just leave and let him live. And that Dean, seeing this, tried to save her in return. I wished she could have lived. Too bad Sam was all “Shoot first. Period.” And Dean being shaken to the point that he finally told someone what Azazel said about Sam not being 100%? He reverts back to his scared little boy persona and kind of totally fails at hiding it. I don’t really say this to often, but: Oh, Dean. (Am I suppose to italicize the whole thing or just Dean's name?)

Time for the [crap] screencaps. I didn’t go the whole episode, but I did do a handful for Dean and CaseyDemon, both.

CaseyDemon, while gorgeous, was distracting. I couldn’t help but think that she looked familiar, though I was pretty sure that I had never seen her before in a show.

Then I realized that she kind of reminded me of that chick in the Matrix. Well, in the Matrix sequels, Persephone. Who is played by Monica Belluci. A little. Kinda. In certain shots and angles. See:

Back to the show we are actually talking about...

Dean. These are particularly good examples of my really bad screencapping skills. Anyway, these all come from the same moment. Dean’s is asking CaseyDemon “What’s it like down there?” And he is, of course, referring to Hell. I watched this moment a few times. Mostly because I couldn’t believe how young Jensen Ackles looked (and sounded) when he asked that question. Probably because he is not scowling or yelling or masking himself with humor or trying to mack on some girl (anymore). This is a little boy asking what is going to happen to him when he dies. You won’t convince me otherwise. I don’t think I properly captured how young he looks to me in this moment.

Random: while watching this seen over and over again, I noticed that Dean/Jensen keeps his eyes closed for quite a bit of time when he blinks here. Like is trying to imagine/picture something in his head. I am serious, even in the wide shot…maybe I am imagining it myself. If you can, go watch this scene and see if he really does this or if I am just changing it in my head.

Yes, still talking about the Dean caps: On a really shallow note, Dean/Jensen’s teeth are really nice. Like perfect-nice.( You can’t really see it in these caps because they are really bad.) Can teeth be considered ‘cute’? Because they are very perfect, and straight, and even except for his canines, which are pointy and, you know, cute. ^.^ ? And now I am just embarrassing myself.

OK, moving on…

::3.05 “Bedtime Stories”::

I’ll keep this one short. ^_^;

I really enjoyed the Grimm version of the fairy tales. I don’t own the book, but I have read it.

The Three Little Pigs was great! How the one brother hid behind the cinder blocks…Gretel chick was really pretty. Snow White was an incredibly beautiful child who was very talented for not having any lines at all. I loved Little Red Riding Hood, and how Dean was the Huntsman (though Sam was clearly better dressed for the part with his Lumberjack!plaid).

I was happy with Sandy as the Crossroads Demon, but my favorite will always be the one Dean made the deal with. However, I did find it hard to focus clearly on that scene. Mostly because I thought a Battlestar Galactica episode was playing in another player or the soundtrack was open in iTunes. Serious, was anyone else reminded of the BSG soundtrack(♥) during that scene?

Alright-y. It occurs to me that I never write this much when I see the episodes on time...I know this was old news to y’all. Feel free to discuss in the comment. I do have to ask you to refrain from spoilers. I know a few casting spoilers for the next two episodes, but I really don’t know too much about the plots. I did a pretty excellent job avoiding them, if I do say so myself. Especially since I have several Supernatural comms on my f-list and I know a good number of you talk bout the eps in your journals as well, and it was all very tempting. I resisted. ;P
