Just a quick update since I'm supposed to be in bed by now...
Band practice went really well. Jesse was really into what it was that Orly and I were laying down, and he's onboard now. That's fantastic, because it will free Orly up to focus entirely on her vocals. All we need now is a drummer and we'll be ready to hit the clubs. While he was hanging out, Jesse told us about his experience teaching English in Osaka and Tokyo, and he has completely reignited my desire to go to Japan. Maybe we can hit the Far East on our second tour.
I heard a new re-released version of Interpol's 'Song 7' on the radio tonight while circling the airport terminal and waiting to pick Thresa up. It's tres cool because those annoying "duet" vocals have been removed and now it's just Paul singing. But it's also lame because apparently it's only available on a re-release of Antics. What is it with bands tacking on a couple of extra tracks and re-releasing an album the year after it's debut? The Killers did that recently with Hot Fuss and it's really insulting to the fans who already bought the original cd. I think this kind of marketing debuted with dvds and is capitalism at its worst, and if it's meant to somehow encourage downloaders to actually go out and buy the album, I question that logic. Because as someone who *does* support bands and buys the actual cds, ploys like this are only going to make me wait much longer to buy something so I can get the "final version" with the extra tracks. Are you listening RIAA? No, I didn't think so.
Oh, and I think my new employer thinks I'm a raging alcoholic or a desperate dope fiend. I had to leave work early on Thursday and come in late on Friday due to a stomach virus, and when I came back in there was a pamphlet on my desk extolling the virtues of the Employment Assistance Program, such as free counseling for drug and alcohol addiction. Joy.
