Since sucumbing to pressures to join facebook, i've been seeing a lot of petitions, which have opened my eyes to a number of issues. Here's the latest/ last straw
https://www.allout.org/en/actions/nigeria-veto It now occurs to me to note that my erstwhile childish notion that we (the human race) live in Enlightenend Times is thoroughly squashed flat. Its more that some of us are more enlightenened than others, in some limited ways, some of the time. And if the so-called West often seems comparatively good, i think it's more the case that we're generally blind to our our barbarism (just like everybody else)
Seems to me that our great claim to being a civilised planet largely amounts to: very few humans still believe that the Earth is flat. Not very relevant to anything much; and the concommitant technological advances have become a souce of terror, since we cannot trust the hands that wield them (i.e. our own)
