Got new issue of DIVA it had some great interviews w/Patty Schemel (was drummer in Hole & subject of Hit So Hard documentary), Nona Hendryx, Lucy Spraggan off X-Factor (clearly I'm not paying attention as I didn't realise she was gay - also Jade who was voted off last week is gay as well) and Clare Balding. Plus a review of the reissued Live Through This book, which offers advice/experiences of other people going through bad times/mental health problems.
Clare Balding said something good in her interview - "You could change the world by just insisting there was one story on women's sport every day." That was one thing I liked about the Olympics that they did try & give coverage to a wide range of sports & feature male & female athletes. However for those who don't like sport/aren't interested in it then I would point to the wider picture of featuring more female presenters/writers/producers & directors and also just diversity in general (in terms of race/sexuality/gender/disability/class etc) throughout popular culture & the media.
Saw the documentary on Frankenstein last night. Tho' it did include a few scenes from the NT Live production w/Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller it was more about what the book represented/how it came to be written rather than any particular portrayals (tho' obviously they did have clips from the classic 30s films). But I loved the way they also referenced punk and the Rolling Stones entourage in the late 60s/early 70s w/the likes of Marianne Faithfull + Anita Pallenberg + they had John Waters on it.
