Finished reading Gary Lachman's book about the occult in the 60s, it was very interesting and covered lots of ground so strictly speaking, it wasn't just about the 60s as he had to go back to earlier periods to discuss the context of certain ideas/events. It mentioned a lot of the usual suspects like Kenneth Anger, Rolling Stones, Alesteir Crowley, Anton LeVey, Charles Manson etc but also mentioned a lot of other people and if you felt like following things up, he mentioned absolutely loads of books if you wanted to read more on particular subjects/people.
I know he's written several other books on the occult (it's his speciality) so I might try and get a couple of the others. This one is supposed to be the 1st part of a trilogy he wrote - the others cover the occult and various creative types and the occult and politics.
And as an interesting side note, he's also known as Gary Valentine and used to be in Blondie & wrote some of their early songs. And I know Debbie Harry got a bit pissed off with him as he revealed in his book about his time in Blondie that her & Chris Stein were really into the occult back in the day.
