TV of 2010

btI think 2010 was a great year for TV

I managed to watch just about everything I wanted to, apart from The Walking Dead so hopefully that'll get shown on a terrestial channel soon as I really want to see it.

Still enjoy QI and various antiques/cookery programmes and reality TV. Other fave non fiction shows are House Gift (altho they need to find more interesting people/not just feature couples), Snog Marry Avoid (they SO need to do a US version of this), and RuPaul's Drag Race (altho I can't believe Tyra won, it should have been Raven or Jujubee). My favourite documentary was the Mark gatiss one, A History of Horror esp. the 1st ep that looked at the early Hollywood horror movies.
MG also popped up in First Men in the Moon which I enjoyed esp. the steampunk stylings of it. Other one off dramas (albeit with several episodes) I enjoyed included A Passionate Woman, Five Daughters, and The Silence (all of which feature ex/current Primeval cast members but they were excellent shows in their own right).
Also quite enjoyed Upstairs, Downstairs but thought Downton Abbey probably had the edge, largely due to a bigger cast/more episodes.

I was also pleased to see Getting On returning for another series and Ideal (I'm interested to see what they do for S7, hopefully Andrew-Lee Potts will still be in it). I still enjoyed The Inbetweeners but I think it's run its course now so I hope they don't do another series.
I thought Series 4 of Skins was very hit or miss so I'm not very hopeful about the new series but we'll see. And the American remake sounds like a complete mess.
I enjoyed Lipservice altho it got pretty bad reviews esp the hot Scottish guy.

Ashes to Ashes finally ended, it was OK but I always preferred Life On mars and I think if they'd gone with that ending but with the LOM cast, it would have been amazing. I also really loved S2 of Survivors esp Max Beesley so I was rather gutted to read it's not being renewed. I thought S2 of Being Human was OK, but not as good as the 1st one, it just seemed to miss the mark quite a lot in terms of characterisation/story plus they killed off Ivan who was so cool and brought back Herrick - why bring back the ugly ones?! But I'll be interested to see what happens with the 3rd series altho I have a horrible feeling this may be the moment the series finally jumps the shark.
I still enjoy True blood altho I tend to prefer the other characters to the main pairing of Bill and Sookie.

Thought Matt Smith did an excellent job as the new Dr (and it was nice to see River Song back who I always thought was a more believable companion than the likes of Rose). Also loved Sherlock, so many brilliant little touches in it - hope they do more episodes next time.
I thought This Is England 86 was good (I'll be interested to see if they follow up on their idea of doing a 3rd part set in the 90s) and Pillars of Earth took a bit of getting into and was frequently unintentionally hilarious but was great - you can't really go wrong with a series which shows a witch pissing on the face of Ian McShane dressed up as a medieval bishop.
I enjoyed Whitechapel, mainly for the chemistry between the 2 main leads rather than the ridiculous plot.
Also thought Lennon Naked was good altho Christopher Ecclestone was a bit too old to be playing Lennon he did a great job altho the secondary characters were very underdrawn.

I loved Glee this year and Spartacus (can't wait for a new series, it was splendid) plus Misfits was brilliant, worked a lot better than I thought it would. I think one of my favourite things this year though was probably the one off drama about Boy George's early days, Worried About the Boy - spot-on styling/music, great cast and a clever script. Can't wait to see who else the BBC are going to write a drama about, I have a feeling they'll end up doing one based on Richey Edwards.

2011 has already got off to a cracking start with the new series of Primeval and we have new series of Being Human, Glee, Sherlock and Downton Abby to look forward to. And hopefully the BBC will finally show that Christopher Isherwood drama I've been looking forward to.
