I got the latest issue of Q magazine which had a couple of book reviews which I really must check out (a book on the impact of disco and Carl Barat's memoirs.)
Also had an interview with Elvis Costello where he (unforgiveably) bitched about Wendy James.

You wrote a whole album, 1993's Now Ain't The Time For Your Tears, for Transvision Vamp's Wendy James. When was the last time you saw her?

I only met her the once. I have no idea what happened to Wendy James. I don't keep tabs on all the people I write songs for. She wrote me what I took to be a sincere letter (asking for guidance). I wrote an album for her and said, "Take it or leave it, but it's a suite of songs, written as a piece." What did I think of the album? I thought it was a ghastly sounding record. She sings like she sings but I thought the production was wrong, it needed to be trashier. The songs were a parable about a girl who wanted to be famous. Put it out now, you could throw a rock and find someone that would be able to sing it.

I've heard a couple of songs off the album & they're not that good. I don't think it was as good as the Transvision Vamp stuff which I think suited Wendy's style a lot better and I think she really brought out the best in the TVV songs.
I wonder if she'll ever write her memoirs or if the band will get rediscovered and get a bigger fanbase.

q magazine, wendy james
