Got the new issue of Noisy which was good, mainly live reviews this time but I enjoyed the Danielle Dax profile --- I've liked the songs of hers that I've heard and she joins my list of sort of Gothic/strange women doing covers of Beatles songs (see also Siouxsie + Dear Prudence, The Nymphs --- Cum & Get it, Tori Amos --- Happiness is A Warm Gun, Lydia lunch --- Why Don't We Do It in the Road? --- Mojo should do it as one of their themed CDs. Plus she's in Company of Wolves).
http://www.noisyzine.co.ukAlso one of my friends did a zine in 4 parts that's the fictional tale of an all girl punk band from Manchester. I quite enjoyed that especially all the details about what they were wearing/listening to. If you want to know the details let me know and I'll send you her contact dets.
It does seem like quite a few zines have closed in the last year or seem to be on indefinite hiatus. But then weirdly it also seems like the zine scene is stronger than ever with events like Brighton Zine Fest and London Zine Symposium attracting bigger than ever crowds. I still think it's a shame Alternative magazine closed, I thought that had real potential and I loved all the stuff they covered. Plus it's been ages since Subtext or Last Hours brought out a new issue so I hope they don't close.
I mentioned on the Being Human blog something about Aidan Turner playing Dr. Who (something I haven't seen mentioned anywhere else which kind of surprises me) --- I could see him doing a really good job of it although perhaps he is still a tiny bit too young for the part at the moment. But if he ever does get to be Dr. Who remember where you read it first.
