It happened at a Convention

I have things happen in my life, which makes me believe things happen for a reason.  And I promised a friend I would explain, so here goes ;-

I was due to go to a Sci-Fi convention, one that my pen friend was also going to.  For reasons of embarrassment, I am not going to say who or which one, unless she wants to admit anything in the comments section.
Anyway, in the club newsletter, was a letter of someone going to the convention who needed a lift.  She had been supposed to be going with a friend, who decided after it had been booked to drop out, but she still wanted to go.  As she was in the local area, I offered to give her a lift, to what was to be her first convention.
We duly met, got on well and off we went. It turned out that her pen friend, who she also had never met, was due to be there too. Neither of us had made arrangements to meet our penfriend, just to keep a look out for them.
During the weekend she bumped into hers and standing next to him was a girl who went  "you haven't seen anyone around here by the name of (insert my real name here)?"  And there I was, standing right next to her.  It turns out that her pen friend and mine were friends.
I don't know what the chances are of me meeting someone for the first time, and her penfriend and mine being friends are, but it can't be very high as the sci-fi club wasn't exactly small and the membership is scattered all over the country.  It's not even at though I got my pen friend through a pen friend column either.  It started when i bought a Zine frome her.
