There are so many things to worry about - bills, work (or no work), kids, relationship with spouse, more unexpected bills, schedules, friends, church and church functions, health, etc. At times these things can apply a great amount of pressure; not to mention when the devil gets involved and stirs it all up for you. The pressure that comes is exerted on your flesh, on you mind and causes you to think and feel from a fleshly point of view (e.g./ road rage, snappy comments). It's as your mind begins to get weighed down with these pressured thoughts and feelings that you begin to worry - the act of excessive care and thought regarding a problem. Worry is not just the wringing your hands, biting your nails and walking the floor; it is letting your mind dwell on the problem and the stress it fosters.
Have you ever met someone who is carefree? Sometimes you get to wonder if they are all there upstairs. In fact, sometimes it seems altogether irresponsible not to worry. I mean, if you really cared, you'd be worried, right? No.
The Word says that we are not to worry, but to cast our cares on Jesus. All we need to do is make our request regarding the thing we are thinking about and let him take over. In fact, He then promises that His peace will act as a guard over our hearts and minds. Just think, God's own peace will act as a shield against the pressures and the stress. This is a powerful position, one where we are not moved by our circumstances, where we do not make decisions under duress. Instead, we are quiet in our hearts and able to hear the direction and leading of the Spirit, Who will lead us in victory, show us the answers, the way out. Amen.
