WARNING: This is going to be a little spoilery about Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
As I play through Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, I have been thinking... A mainline* Legend of Zelda is a single player game because of course it is,but the group of Champions that make up the backstory make up a perfect role-playing party. Think about it: A Rito scout/ranger, a Zora cleric, a Gerudo barbarian, a Goron tank, a Hylian shaman/wizard, and a Hylian rogue.
Side topic: Link in BotW is obviously a rogue, by the way; think about how good he is at climbing, backstabbing, setting and avoiding traps, using disguises, and opening chests without keys. It's a full suite of rogue tricks.
Anyway, I would love to play in a Pathfinder campaign about BotW's Hyrule with pre-fabbed characters. Maybe somebody unearthed the Ocarina of Time and travelled back 100 years to warn everyone about Ganon's plans to capture the Divine Beasts and Guardians, sidestepping that nasty party wipe.
They might try to lead the evacuation of Hyrule Castle town from the Guardians, then go about figuring out how to wrest control of the divine beasts as a team, without the assistance of the towers or the shrines (that only activated after Link's resurrection).
Ganon's plan gone awry, he would have to accelerate his timetable and utilize the Yiga clan in creative ways. The remnants of the Hylian army struggle to maneuver around the guardians and stymie the spread of the moblin and stalfos hoards. Can Hyrule's champions protect the country and stop Ganon's century of rule before it begins?
There are already so many fun potential developments between the main characters that don't have canon resolutions. In a group that doesn't care so much about power equity, Link and Zelda would be level one while each of the other Champions would have a few levels to start out.
I think it could be pretty awesome.
