Hrrm...

After spending an hour looking for references to Sto-Vo-Kor after a carpool conversation about the Klingon Afterlife, I find myself missing Star Trek. Next Generation and Deep Space Nine were amoung the serial TV shows I occupied myself with as a child, before I knew of anime.

nostalgia, tv

me too....i loved coming home to watch ST:TNG every afternoon. It rocked!

i was somewhat of a DS9 fan, but then the Dominion War just pissed me the hell off. The Changelings and their paranoia was just plain stupid. Why exhaust such vast resources to protect yourself from a threat which does not exist? dumb, dumb, dumb.

But yeah..they rock!

It's entirely believable. OMG Iraq has WMD! If DS9 came out now, they would probably be accused of modelling the Dominion after the US.

Sherry and I are watching DS9 right now via Netflix. It's her first time, my second time. We're both enjoying it, since luckily I don't remember the specifics of many of the episodes, so even some of the surprise endings are still surprising. But I guess you would've already watched it a second time via Kyle's DVDs.

Anyways it's something to look forward to... in a few years more time you might have forgotten the episodes and then you can enjoy them almost like new. :)

Some early Star Trek influenced anime of the space faring kind. And vice versa. There's easter eggs in TNG, Voyager, and Enterprise. Classic is referenced in Dirty Pair as a parody, helped inspire Crest of the Stars too, among others. They share a lush combined history. Even small nods in Tenchi Muyo.

I still can't touch classic, and barely TNG. I rewatch mostly the more recent series, from DS9 up to catch jokes in Family Guy, Robot Chicken, and American Dad. Mostly only when bored or desperate or inebriated. Classic Trek is like Classic Who to me, I just can not touch anything before the 80s, cept Movies. I can tolerate those sometimes.

I really enjoy(ed) TNG. I've still not seen more than three episodes of the original series--though I think I've seen all the original movies (after three, I lose track).

Skip the first two seasons of TNG and you're golden. I just really like the characters in TNG.
