Very beautiful; your pacing is exquisite, and the second person is extremely effective. I particularly liked the dialectical form, the brief tension produced when Jim believed Spock only to be experimenting. It seems a very valid fear and you handle it brilliantly by making it a turn-around of the Kobayashi maru test. I've been looking forward to this for a while, and it was very much worth the wait!

I kind of went rollercoaster reading this, I mean, Spock was concerned, so I was, and then he was excited and I was FLAILING and then Jim left and I was like D:! D:! D:!x35802754829076 and Spock made a tiny internal frowny face that reflected all this deepest sorrows and we were sad together! But then he got Jim and I was KERMITFLAILING.

This is the first Kirk/Spock fic I've ever read, and I'd just like to say that it was a wonderful introduction to the fic pairing. I loved how the meld was used both to confuse (at first) and to strengthen their connection. The moment Kirk rests on his shoulder almost had me teary-eyed.
