>> I remember that Hitler and Pol Pot were Christians.

But Stalin! But Mao! Atheists! This way lies madness. (A reference to Stalin is henceforth to be known as "Dave's Inverse to Godwin's Law.")

Hitler was (arguably) a public Christian, but apparently not one in private:

"Derek Hastings sees Hitler's commitment to Christianity as more tenuous. He considers it 'eminently plausible' that Hitler was a believing Catholic as late as his trial in 1924, but writes that 'there is little doubt that Hitler was a staunch opponent of Christianity throughout the duration of the Third Reich.' Didn't know about Pol Pot. I found a site protesting that he wasn't REALLY a Buddhist... he was clearly a communist, can you be communist and Christian?... he went to school in a Christian school, so maybe he was a Christian in the same sense that President Obama is a Muslim... I dunno. I don't know enough. The story of my life!

However, the main point about "atheists face persecution" is pretty clear.
