Actually, there are many more than 10 reasons why the rest of the world think that the US is nuts: this is just the tip of the iceberg. I love your country and many of its citizens, but I could never live there, because of these issues. That isn't to say that the UK is perfect - it certainly is not, but when I see our Tory PM (of whom I am not generally a fan) coming out with this statement last week - "I don't support gay marriage in spite of being a conservative: I support it because I am a conservative" - and having recently had an abortion amendment bill laughed out of the Commons by both parties, my faith in the basic sanity of my own country is preserved.
It occurs to me to wonder, after reading the Chemaly piece again, if the generally lower value on women's lives is going to lead some bright person to suggest that you only force a woman to carry a male fetus to term...
But I suppose if they want women to carry dead babies, even a dead female baby would do to put the point across.

Equally amazing, conservatives don't care what the rest of the world thinks.
This may be because we conservatives remember the history of the 1930's, during which all the smart international set realized that democracy was doomed and our choice was between fascism and communism. Only America, and to an extent Britain, was "backward" enough to still really believe in liberal democracy.
Look how that turned out. Prosperity and life for us, poverty and death for the parts of the world that embraced the totalitarian ideologies.

What, like Germany? Or Japan? Or Sweden? I'm not having a go here, and you could make the case that the first two, at least, are only in their current state because the USA put money into them after the war. But at the moment, your country is effectively owned by the Chinese and your economy has been in a disastrous state which has had a serious knock-on effect onto mine.

As is becoming the case, de facto, in Red China.
