HOT

I am writing this from an internet cafe of sorts in Camp Buehring, Kuwait. I've been here a few days now, and I thought I'd check in to update some of you.

As far as work is concerned, there is none. I'm part of the Advance Party that sets up things for the Main Body which arrives the 14th. At that point there should be 10 days of hard work before we enter Iraq between the 20th and 25th.

Maybe you're wondering how the weather is? HOT. It's been a steady 120+ the past three days during the day. If you've never felt this kind of heat before, I'll try to explain. Imagine a giant hair dryer blowing on your entire body. That's what the wind feels like. I'm still in the process of getting used to it. I was working out at the gym today and happened to look at the thermostat on the wall, 88 degrees, and it felt damn cool. After you feel 120, 88 feels pretty good.

The desert is unlike any place I've ever been. Besides the ocean, it's the only place that I'm sure I'd die in if I was away from civilization and left to my own devices. There is absolutely nothing. I have not seen a single animal, or even bug. I'm sure they're around, but they're hiding pretty well. I've looked for the legendary camel spider at night, but haven't found one yet. I respect this place.

I put my self on a pretty regulated schedule to pass the time. I run in the mornings, eat meals at the same time every day (the food is actually really good. I had lobster today) and lift weights in the afternoon. In between I either read, play my GBA, or occasionally make a visit to the phone center and internet cafe.

Despite having very little to do, I must say I've been in pretty high spirits. Furthermore I have enjoyed three of the best nights sleep I've had in a very long time here. I'm sure this will change when I move into the actual combat zone, but, for now, I'm enjoying the calm before the storm. Out here I am removed from all the problems in my normal life and it feels nice.

When I get a definite mailing address for Iraq I'll be sure to post it on my livejournal as well as various other places. When I do, I hope a few of you will drop me a line from time to time.

I guess that's all I have for now. Take care of yourselves, everyone.
