I generally hate blogs, just on principle- the belief that your daily random thoughts are so important that they need to be put on the internet for everyone to see is just egotistical. But frankly, I have been unable to access the areas in which I usually rant a whole lot, so I'm just going to do it here. Also, this way absolutely no-one will ever see this, which is fine by me 'cause alot of it is gonna be emo moaning.
Let's start with me. I'm a geek, so I'm automatically considered a social outcast by 99% of society, which in a place like college is basically a self-fulfilling prophecy. I came from a gifted high school, so basically everybody was a geek (and completely fucking nuts), so back then I had alot of friends and things were interesting. Plus I built robots. That beats any other hobby you could possibly have, and also contributes to the aforementioned social-outcast-ness.
But now I'm in college, where geeks are a minority, and most of them try to act normal to maintain some sense of a social life. I don't bother, so I'm pretty much screwed. There's some people in my building I hang out with fairly often, and I sometimes play video games with some of my suitemates, but other than that- nada. No parties, bar trips, barely go out at all, etc. Frankly most of that's fine by me, as for the masses here "going out" means "booze and more booze", and I don't drink. I'll never understand why people think they need to shut down a large portion of their brain in order to have fun.
Also, since most of these people conform to societal standards and try to act 'normal', they're fucking boring. They talk about class, music, girls, and sports. That's about it. They also tend to act pretty nerd-phobic and avoid doing anything that would show their inner geekitude to the general populace, despite the fact that most of them play video games alot, etc.
Also, I don't listen to music- see, if this were in person, you would be giving me that look. Everyone gives me that look. I hate that look. Stop it.
That brings me to video games. There is nothing wrong with playing video games all the time. It's an activity that stimulates the mind, helps reflexes, encourages creativity, problem solving, good memory, and in many games social interaction. In online games you have to work together with other people to get victory, all the while talking to them, making jokes, laughing with them, etc.
That's why the MMOs, the everquest's and WoW's, are always so fucking addicting. People sometimes lose contact with local social lives to play them, but they're always talking with people elsewhere, working with guild members from around the world to accomplish goals and whatnot.
That's all for now. Too much ranting and my head asplode.
