I don't post much about the O.C. because it's a trashy teen drama and I don't want to admit that I watch it, but for awhile it was a particularly well done trashy teen drama so I stuck with it. By the way if you care at all about what happened at the end of the season don't read this.
So this show was good for awhile and I liked the characters and some unbeleivable stuff happened but it's a soap opera and I accepted the fact that stuff happens quickly becuase they try to take all the interesting things that can ever happen in someone's life and make them all happen to every character, and doing that requires things to move quickly. It hit rough patches, Oliver, beginning of season 2, and the end of season 3, but like some other shows that I stuck with even though they got bad I hoped it would pull through. So we get to the end of the third season and I've put all this time and effort into the show, and getting to know the characters, and watching all the bad episodes mixed in with the good, and we're all sitting around wondering how they are going to handle college and the group moving out of Newport and to different coasts and if they are going to draw out the Ryan-Marissa thing like Friends did to the Ross-Rachel thing. (we KNEW, 100% KNEW, they had to end up together becuase nobody has a history like that and just lets it go, and the fuckers drag it out 10 years until literally the last 5 minutes of the show. maybe they thought it was dramatic but I just thought it was a waste of time)
But getting back on point we're wondering if the Ryan-Marrisa thing and all it's forced drama is going to head down the same road forever, and the writer's solution to it, and to the bi coastal college thing and whatnot is just that they aren't going to do it. In the last 15 min they pretty much reveal that Marrisa's little sister is going to be hedlining the next season and in the last 5 min Marissa gets killed off by a minor character in an accident that doesn't make any sense. And to top it off, they do the obligatory dying in the arms of the one you loved but it just never worked out scene and on the scale of that scene, with 10 being Romeo & Juliette and one being... well I;m going to have to make Ryan & Marissa the one because no one else has totally fucked up that scene. It's just too important to do badly. R&J, Last Kiss (Pearl Jam song), Buffy end of season 2, all great scenes/songs. The OC made it's own category of sucking.
So FUCK YOU Josh Schwartz!
Fuck you and your utter failure. Despite my better judgement I watch your show for three years and got invested in these people and without any warning, without a real finale episode, you just tear it apart in 5 minutes. Ryan and Marissa go through everything together and they break up for no reason and she gets killed by a minor character with seconds left of the clock? Fuck that. I want my fucking resolution! Instead of fixing the show you just gave up on it, and I hope your new younger OC with your even ditzier and more coniving generation fails miserably, because you let us all down. asshole.
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Juliet and her Romeo.
except the giant fuck up by the OC's writing staff.
