zmag...we've been talking about this question in class a lot, being that it is latin american studies and we are travelling there, and been warned of making the mistake of a presupposed assumption by those of us from the united states that 'american' means US. some may argue it's just semantics, but i beg to differ..it points to a prevailing notion of white imperialism that the united states refuses to let go of (despite its distinction of being founded principally upon the ideology of colonial liberation)...in any case an interesting read.
