I went and saw Alan Davies live last night and he was pretty brilliant. Delightful, actually. And I'm even more thoroughly convinced that the kid out of Outnumbered is secretly his clone.
After the show, went out with my brother and S and a guy she knew from working in Native Title and went to the pub, with the loud music and the talking and it was very nice. There was a guy there doing covers with his guitar and a drum machine. Everything sort of sounded like it was Green Day covering all the songs. We were trying to convince M, the guy, that Twitter was not a scary, useless thing and I was showing him how it worked on my phone and the hashtag #civilunion came up.
Y'see, Queensland State Parliament last night had a big debate and a vote on allowing gay civil unions.
AND IT FUCKING PASSED! Yes 47 to No 40!!!
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
There was a LOT of Twittery love for various MPs as they spoke out in favour, some surprising ones as well. But yeah, GAY CIVIL UNIONS IN QUEENSLAND! You can read the
parliamentary proceedings here. I recommend using the document map and skipping to the Civil Unions bit at the end. (Second last item). It's actually a really good read.
.... So, Tasmania motioned in favour; the Labor caucus in I think every State has voted for equal marriage statements and such. And now Queensland has passed a Civil Unions bill! My local MP was in the thick of it last night and she voted for. :)
How is it Tassie and Queensland, widely acknowledged as being the backward states, are now so ahead of the curve?? :P AWESOME!
:)
