What Chapter in Life are You On?

Have you ever wondered if your life were interesting enough to write a book about? Your childhood experiences, the naive early teen years and stupid mistakes, the late teen years where you think you know it all, at least from your perspective you do, the wild early college years where everything seemed so relative and everything you once believed was now being challenged, the later college years of wisdom when you look back at who you used to be and how you have grown through many experiences into the person you are now, etc..

Let's say that each stage in life is a chapter, where are you? Looking at your own personal life, is your book a novel, a short story, an essay, etc....Is there nothing that interesting that would take a whole chapter? Maybe more like a paragraph or two?

What theme would your story be? What subject would it be found under in the Library, romance, sci-fi, humor, tragedy, etc... Let's have fun for a second and think, if they were to make my life story into a movie, who play play me? Would you be cocky enough to pick Brad Pitt or Reese Witherspoon or would your character be choosen from the many wierdo's from Napolean Dynamite?

The Christian singing group, 4-Him, once wrote a song called, "I want to be a man that you would write about" Just like the Biblical characters who lived by faith and many who died because of thier faith. I used to love that thought and then I realized, I don't want anyone looking into my dirty little secrets, my hidden desires and sins, the every thought on my heart. I would make King David look like a Saint in his sinfulness.

I mean really. If people knew my real thoughts sometimes, the real words I use, the things I watch, etc... Can you see it. We are all there. No, it doesn't sem so wonderful of a thought to have that book written about you does it?

Well guess what, we don't have a choice in the matter. We are all people that God would write about and is writting about every single day. From the moment we wake up to the moment we go to bed, everything we do is written as a testimony of who we are and our books are open for everyone to read. Look with me at 2 Corinthians 3:3, it says, "You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the Living God, not on tablets of stone, but on tablets of human hearts."

Our life, the way we live it, the choices we make and the things we say, do and allow in our lives, all of it is a letter that represents Christ. YIKES!!!! OUCH!!!! OK, so lets take a self evaluation of this thought. How many of us feel really good about what people are reading? I mean, when they look at us, for the most part, are we portraying Jesus in an honest and truthful way?

My question to you tonight is when was the last time you allowed your story book to be written in by God? Has it been years, has it been since a recent tragedy that you are struggling with or was it yesterday? What was it? Was it a success in something? Was it in a failure and a lesson learned? What was it? When was the last time you allowed the author of life to write something new about you? as it worthy of writing? Was it truthful or was it something that you would never want anyone to read about? Was it a shameful moment?

My friends, you can't hide it. It is written all over your face and demeanor (your attitude). It is obvious by all who read your life; your close friends, your parents, your teammates or dance dance mates. Anyone who spends any amount of time with you can see where you are at in life. They know and so does God.

I'll leave you with this last thought. When we talked about who would play you in a movie, who did you pick? Now, let's think about this. Do you think Jesus would have picked Jim Cavaziel for the starring roll of Himself if he had a choice? Who do you think Jesus would have picked? The answer is right in front of you, LOOK IN THE MIRROR!!! That's who Jesus has picked to play His part in life, YOU!!! We know that no actor can ever portray the original and we can't either, not exactly, but God has asked us to study His roll closely and do the best job we can. So let me leave you with one final question: "How are you doing in playing the roll of Jesus?" Is it believable or is it obvious that you just have no clur what the person of Jesus was really like? Remember, it is obvious to those around you so it's time to be honest with yourself.
